Situation
You want to use the universal player XMMS to play audio CDs via the IDE data cable, for example, because there is no direct audio connection between the CD-ROM drive and the sound card in your PC.

Procedure

SUSE LINUX 8.2 and Older Versions
- Start xmms.
- Press [CTRL]+[P].
- Select the Input Plugins tab.
- Double-click AudioCD Reader.
- Select the Output tab.
- Activate Read Digital CD Audio.
- Save these settings.
Load the file /dev/cdrom or the device corresponding to your CD-ROM drive in XMMS and play the CD.

From SUSE LINUX 9.0 on
- Start xmms.
- Press [CTRL]+[P].
- Select the Audio I/O Plugins"tab.
- Select CD Audio Player from the Input plugins section.
- Press Configure.
- Select the play mode option Digital audio extraction for your drive in the Device tab.
- Press OK to confirm these settings.
To listen to an audio CD, load the selected title from the directory configured for your drive and play it with XMMS.
