SDB:PPC:Airport Extreme

From openSUSE

Version: 10.2

This article describes the extra steps necessary to properly install and initialize an Apple Airport Extreme wireless card.

Situation

OpenSUSE 10.2 detects and installs the drivers for your Airport or Airport Extreme card but you're unable to initialize it or connect to any networks.

Procedure

While not readily apparent, Apple Airport cards use the new Broadcom 43xx driver that the default kernel uses in OpenSUSE 10.2. This driver requires the original firmware which cannot be included with the install for legal reasons.

To correct this, the easiest option is to follow the instructions for OpenSUSE 10.2 Option 1 detailed at SDB:Broadcom_(BCM4306)_WLAN_Installation_under_SUSE

These instructions are not applicable to MacBooks and MacBook Pros.
