SDB:Magnifying glass in openSUSE 10.2

From openSUSE

Version: OpenSUSE 10.2

Situation

You have difficulties reading the small Text on the Monitor. Or maybe you want to lean back and the Monitor is to far away to read. here is the Solution. A Virtual Magnifying Class for your Desktop. Easy to install and very easy to use.

Procedure

First you will have to download a rpm file from the Internet. Here is the Link to download it.

http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?group_id=60638&use_mirror=belnet&filename=magnifier-3.3-1.i586.rpm&86677985

When you download it with Firefox, it should be saved as default on your Desktop. When it is Downloading, you open a Konsole or Terminal. then you type in the following Commands.

su - [ENTER]

your root password	[ENTER]
cd /home/Username/Desktop	[ENTER]
rpm -Uvh filename.rpm	[ENTER]
cd /usr/share/magnifier	[ENTER]
./magnifier	[ENTER]

Now it should start the Magnifying Class. If it does not start, do the commands above again and make sure that you type the right Commands.

It is annoying to open the Konsole or terminal all the time and type in the Commands till it opens, so we will create a shortcut on the Desktop.

Do a right mouseclick on the Desktop and select “Create new” and “Link to Application”. Then you put in a Name, whatever you want it to call, and go to Application at the top of the window. In the Work Path you put in “/usr/share/magnifier” and in the Command you put in “'/usr/share/magnifier/magnifier'”. When you are finished with that, you can klick OK. Now you have created a Shortcut on your Desktop for the Magnifier.

Like with most other extra Tools, this one has some Sied effects. If you have a Slideshow as your Background, it will not update the pics till you hide your Magnifier window.

And another thing, I have configured my Panel to disappear when my Mouse leaves the Panel. But when I use the Magnifier Window the Panel does not disappear.

These are not big problems. I think this Magnifier is a nice Tool which is very good and did not once freeze or crash.
