SDB:Java Support Missing Following a 9.2 Standard Installation

From openSUSE

Version: 9.2 - 9.2

Symptom

You have installed Mozilla/Firefox after having performed a standard installation and you cannot view any web pages featuring Java content with these browsers. However, the Java Runtime Environment is installed and Konqueror can display such contents.

Cause

The required browser plug-in is not installed.

Solution

Install the package java-1_4_2-sun-plugin by means of YaST2. Then start a browser of your choice and enter about:plugins in the URL field to verify if the plug-ins could be loaded. The Java plug-ins should be included in the list of installed plug-ins.

For a 64Bit system (AMD64 or Intel EM64T) install the 32-bit version of Mozilla/Firefox, since the module for a 64-bit Mozilla/Firefox does not work.

If the plug-in is no longer available after updating via YOU (YaST Online Update), launch the following script as root user:

/opt/mozilla/bin/add-plugins.sh
