SDB:Creating A Customized Package Selection

Situation

You want to save your customized package selection to be able to select it for a new installation.

Procedure

Start YaST2 and select the options

  • Software ->
  • Install and Remove Software

To save the current package selection, click on

  • File ->
  • Export ->
  • OK

Save the package list as the file user.sel on a floppy disk.

Procedure for the new installation: Start the installation and choose your language. Then select the following menu items from the "Installation Settings" menu:

  • Software ->
  • File (field on the upper left corner) ->
  • Import ->
  • Floppy

The field Path already contains the file name user.sel. After confirming the dialog with OK, the customized package selection will be loaded. Confirm the pop-up message with OK and exit the software menu by clicking on Accept (lower right corner).

Now you can resume the installation process.

Procedure when installing via NFS/FTP etc. (experienced users)

If you have copied your installation medium on a writable data medium and want to install via NFS or FTP, you can also proceed as follows: Copy the file user.sel, which you have previously created according to the instructions above, on the installation medium to the directory

suse/setup/descr

Make sure that root has read access to the file. Insert the name of your package selection in the file selections:

echo user.sel >> selections

To be able to choose your customized package selection during the installation, change to the detailed selection and select your package list under Selections.
