SDB:Collecting Information on the ADSL Registration

From openSUSE

Version: 7.3

Situation

You would like to submit information on your ADSL registration and its configuration to the SuSE Advanced Support Service.

Procedure

  1. Start your Linux system.
  2. Log in as a user and start your desktop.
  3. In KDE, press the key combination ALT+F2.
  4. Enter "xterm" in the box.
  5. Click on "Execute".
  6. A new window will pop up; enter the command "su".
  7. Now enter the root password.
  8. Enter the command "cd /tmp".

Now proceed as follows:

1. Deactivate dial-on-demand. You can do this with the help
of the ADSL/TDSL configuration menu in YaST2.
2. Make sure that apart from the ADSL/TDSL configuration,
no other provider has been configured for a modem or ISDN
   connection.
3. SMPPPD information:
   rcsmpppd status > info.txt
   grep START_SMPPPD /etc/rc.config >> info.txt
4. Routing table prior to the establishment of the connection:
   route -n >> info.txt
5. Set a mark in /var/log/messages with:
   echo "DSL-Test" | logger
6. Establish the connection:
   cinternet -start
7. Routing table while the connection is active:
   route -n >> info.txt
8. Terminate the connection:
   cinternet -stop
9. Get the messages from /var/log/messages with
   tail -n 200 /var/log/messages | grep -A 200 "DSL-Test" >> info.txt
10. Insert additional information with the following commands:
    procinfo >> info.txt
    ifconfig >> info.txt
    lsmod >> info.txt
    cat /etc/resolv.conf >> info.txt
    lspci -vv >> info.txt
    pnpdump >> info.txt
11. Paste the contents of the file info.txt (ASCII format)
into your e-mail message. If you are going to send the e-mail
with a different operating system, proceed as follows:
   a) Recode for DOS/Windows with
      recode lat1..ibmpc info.txt
      Recode for MacOS with
      recode lat1..mac info.txt
   b) Save the file info.txt on a floppy disk with
      mount /floppy
      cp info.txt /floppy
      umount /floppy
   c) In the other operating system, insert the file INFO.TXT from the
floppy disk in the e-mail message.

In this way you have created the file /tmp/info.txt. This file contains the information on your ADSL registration. Please send the contents of this text file in ASCII format to support@suse.de. Do not use any encoded attachments! Please enclose your registration code. Wait for the confirmation that your e-mail has been received, then call the SuSE Advanced Support Service - Internet under:
