SDB:Beryl install 10.2
From openSUSE
[edit]
Situation
You have just installed OpenSuSE 10.2 and want the latest graphic system for your computer: This was done as soon as I finished a new installation The first thing to look at is the software that has been installed by default during the installation- The following packages are loaded by default if your system supports- XGL-COMPIZ.
[edit]
Procedure
1.Go to the start menu and click on Yast to open up the software manager.
2.When open click on the Software top left then slide across and click on
software management top right. When the program opens you can type
in the search box the letters xgl and press enter. You should see to the right
xgl and xgl hardware-list. if installed they should have a blue tick in
the box. Do the same for compiz.
3.If you have them installed you may now enter the name of the Beryl Sources.
4.To do this use zypper the new command-line tool for SuSE, To find out the
name of the source to add please visit this Website:
http://en.opensuse.org/Beryl
5.To add the source from the command-line go to the start menu and click
on open terminal and from here you should login as root user and then
just type the following- zypper sa
http://ftp.skynet.be/pub/software.opensuse.org/X11:/XGL/openSUSE_10.2
6.You should see some message that will say determining the source type
and if successful it will say source added. To check if the source was
added successfully go back to the software management tool in yast and
type the word beryl in the search box and press enter and to the left you
should see the packages that are available for you to install.
7.The required packages that have worked for me are as follows:
Xgl
beryl-core-snapshot
beryl-plugins-snapshot
emerald-snapshot-window decorator
emerald-themes-snapshot
aquamarine-snapshot
beryl-settings-snapshot
beryl-manager-snapshot
compiz
8.When all the software has been installed you can see the beryl icon
either under the start menu under applications and new applications.
If not you may start it by going to the command-line and typing the word beryl
and it should start.
9.Some settings may need to be adjusted for the beryl manager to work correctly-
So if your machine reboots when you start beryl for the first time you may
have to change some settings under the beryl settings manager by right clicking
on the icon and choosing the beryl settings icon at the top. When it opens you
can change various different setting for the way beryl uses the window
set-up by changing the rendering or the composite settings.
