What is it?

The openSUSE Promo DVD is a special edition used as giveaway on fairs or as covermount on Magazines. It includes a GNOME and KDE Live System but it is also possible to install it.

Where can i get it?

It is only available as DVD, not for download. You can get it on fairs or with a magazine. If you want the image for your magazine, please send an email to marketing@suse.de.

What is the difference to the Live DVD i can download?

There are less languages on it, due to space limitation.

Is the installation the same as the DVD/CD i can download?

No, due to space limitations we have only a subset of languages and packages included. The packages includes a basic desktop system with GNOME/KDE, OpenOffice.org, Realplayer, Flash and everything else you need for a desktop system. Most development tools are not on the PromoDVD, but you have everything you need to compile a Kernel with it. A full list of the RPMs is online here

What languages are included

English, German, Spanish, Italian, French, Chinese (traditional and simplified), Brazilian Portuguese, Polish

Is it limited in any way?

No, beside the language and package selection it's not limited. As with all free versions there is no support included. Security updates will be provided for 2 years.

Where can i get more packages for it?

The installation Source for the full version will be added automaticly when you register during the second part of the installation. With an Internet connection you can simply install other packages with YaST2.

Issues

  • some systems crash during the X Setup of the live part (KDE and GNOME), it should help to press ESC during booting so the splash screen is off
  • sometime the network in the live system is not working ad hoc (especially with emulators like Virtualbox, Qemu etc.). A network restart should help
