Printing Howto
From openSUSE
Usually there shouldn't be problems with your printing system, but if there come problems up, you might want to have a look through the existing documentation.
Included Documentation
CUPS comes along with several documentation. They can be found in your system via multiple ways:
- file:/usr/share/doc/packages/cups
- http://localhost:631/documentation.html
- and others, e.g. internet, and maybe in the SUSE administration guide.
Selected Documents
The original CUPS documentation is very good, but the chosen documentation names aren't. So don't hesitate on the names and have a closer look for
- file:/usr/share/doc/packages/cups/sum.html, Software User Manual, or just User Manual; especially the Standard Printer Options in chapter 3.
- file:/usr/share/doc/packages/cups/sam.html, Software Administrations Manual, or just Admin Manual, on how to configure a printer.
Additional Documentation
If you have some special topics, have a closer look at this article in SUSE Support Database: CUPS in a Nutshell where most problems are addressed at, like adding special filters chains, printing to special printers (raw printers), using special backends (does communication with the "printer").
Feel free to send feedback...
