What do you think of a Category:Printing with Category:Troubleshooting printing, Category:Special printing and Category:Printing hardware as subcategories? Compare: Category_talk:Booting. Greetings --Pistazienfresser 23:52, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
There seems to be no defining and introducing article about the packet/program CUPS or Cups and the Common UNIX Printing System in any namespace of this wiki. --Pistazienfresser 04:49, 5 October 2010 (MDT)
- I am surely ignorant enough (maybe too ignorant?) to write a defining and explaining article on CUPS if I use enough time. But as so the outcome maybe not technically correct (or plainly wrong). If someone with knowledge on CUPS would be willing to make a review (and would let me know) I would try to make an (hopefully short - not like that in Wikipedia) article on CUPS (the program/the package). I hope it would not be too difficult to find other people with English (I am German, too) as their native language to make a review on using correct English.
- But that is just an idea...Regards --Pistazienfresser 09:51, 5 October 2010 (MDT)
- One thing to have in mind is that SDB is not searched by default and SDB:CUPS in a Nutshell does not exist for wiki visitors. I searched for "cups" and "CUPS" and there was no SDB page. So, yes we need redirect, most likely to Portal:Printing which will explain that is cups related to printing and link to CUPS article. --Rajko m 21:28, 5 October 2010 (MDT)
As a first step I would very much appreciate such a redirect from the search term "CUPS" to Portal:Printing but I am afraid, I do not know how to make it. If you know how to do it, either please tell me or perhaps you could just make it. Many thanks in advance! --User:jsmeix Wed Oct 6 15:29:20 CEST 2010
Regarding an introducing article on CUPS for unexperienced users: I would very much appreciate such an article. Fortunately this is a Wiki ;-) so that you can start it and I would care that it is technically correct. There is some basic information regarding "Printer Operation" in the openSUSE "Reference" manual in the package named opensuse-manuals_en or opensuse-manual_en or similar (its name changed - no idea why) you may view a file like /usr/share/doc/manual/*/manual/index.html in your browser and upstream provides http://www.cups.org/documentation.php/doc-1.4/overview.html but I do not know about an article on CUPS which really addresses unexperienced users --User:jsmeix Wed Oct 6 15:46:19 CEST 2010 Addendum: Also the help texts in the YaST printer setup module provide some basic stuff regarding "printing" - intentionally it avoids the word "CUPS" where possible. Nevertheless it might be useful regarding an introducing article on CUPS --User:jsmeix Wed Oct 6 17:25:48 CEST 2010
