OpenSUSE Style Guide/Colon in title
From openSUSE
| The colon (:) has special meaning in Mediawiki software, it is used to designate namespace. |
For instance you want to create article Packaging:Introduction as part of series with common topic Packaging. Namespace has somewhat specific treatment in search. It can be excluded from a default search, search will look for string after the colon so you can use same title in a different name spaces.
The colon (:) after Packaging in Mediawiki software has no special meaning, unless namespace already exists, so right now using colon makes no difference. One day when somebody decide that Packaging: deserves its own name space all articles that begin with Packaging: will disappear from default search scope. In some cases it can be wanted action, in other not.
If you are not sure that is what you want then don't use colon.
