AppArmor

Included with openSUSE/SUSE Linux, AppArmor is an application security tool designed to provide a highly secure yet easy to use security framework for your applications. AppArmor proactively protects the operating system and applications from external or internal threats, even zero-day attacks, by enforcing good behavior and preventing even unknown application flaws from being exploited.

Better Desktop

Better Desktop is a project dedicated to sharing usability data with Linux developers. Over the past year, we have conducted many usability tests on different parts of the KDE and GNOME desktops. We created a site to serve as a place where developers can watch videos of these tests. Here you will find over 200 videos of people using Mozilla Firefox, Evolution, Open Office, Banshee, F-Spot, and other applications.

Build Service

The openSUSE Build Service makes package building easy. It provides a farm of servers and infrastructure to build packages for SUSE and other distributions. The Build Service can conveniently be accessed by a web interface or via a command line client. An API for use by specialized client software is available as well.

Education

The Education project (openSUSE for Schools) is a place where Educators and Technologists who use openSUSE can post their successes, applications used, and HOWTOs. The ultimate goal is to create an "add-on" CD called "Edu-CD" containing lots of additional applications for openSUSE.

JackLab

Recently there is a place to go for musicians and media producers who want to use openSUSE/SUSE Linux. "JackLab" takes care of the communication between openSUSE users and developers. JackLab would like to stimulate an entrance CD ISO with the help of openSUSE community that contains a complete music production environment.

KDE Updater Applet

A project to supply a native KDE updater applet for the new SUSE package system.

Kernel Module Packages

It is now possible to create and provide kernel modules that are not part of SUSE's kernel RPMs, but still are handled correctly upon kernel updates.

KIWI

The openSUSE KIWI Image System provides a complete operating system imaging solution for Linux supported hardware platforms as well as for virtualization systems like Xen and VMware.

LDTP

Linux Desktop Testing Project - Regression or Functionality testing of GUI applications.

Lessons for Lizards

Lessons for Lizards (LfL) is a community cookbook-style book project for the openSUSE distribution licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL). It is planned to ship this book with upcoming openSUSE releases on an equal footing with internally produced documentation. Lessons for Lizards covers more specific or exotic topics than the internally produced manuals.

Simplifying the process of adding installation sources and installing packages.

MicroSUSE

The openSUSE embedded systems building toolkit aims to make creation of custom Linux-based embedded systems effortless.

MiniSUSE

The openSUSE mini project aims to make creation of small memory SUSE-based Distribution.

OpenVZ virtualization

OpenVZ allows to run multiple Virtual Environments (VE) on a physical server. It is running a single kernel and is very efficient, allowing to run hundreds of VEs with different Linux distributions inside on moderate hardware.

OpenWBEM

OpenWBEM is an enterprise-grade open-source implementation of WBEM, written in C++, suitable for commercial and non-commercial applications. It provides a foundation for development of management frameworks that overcome cross-platform barriers and empower true interoperability. Developers can use OpenWBEM as a management agent and WBEM framework to provide applications for configuration and change management, system health monitoring, and enterprise-wide management functionality.

SLICK

SLICK stands for Suse LIte: Core + Kde, or, if you prefer, Simple LInux: Core + Kde. It is a (potential) project to create a lightweight, desktop-oriented, easy-to-use Linux distribution based on openSUSE/SUSE Linux via the openSUSE community.

Software Portal

The goals are to provide the best possible end-user experience with regards to package installation/upgrading at large. This goes into several directions, with amongst them an openSUSE "software portal" web application that aggregates all sorts of information (latest updates, new applications, latest versions, ...) + easy browsing of applications/packages that are available for openSUSE (with screenshots, ratings, tagging, comments, and links to "one-click installation").

SUPER

The experimental openSUSE community-driven branch of openSUSE/SUSE Linux. SUPER stands for SUSE Performance Enhanced Release and includes desktop speed optimizations, additional packages, and features not found in the more stable and commercial-grade general SUSE release.

Squeegee

This Project has been created by members of the openSUSE community. This is not intended to create a new distribution or a fork of openSUSE. The intentions is to add specific packages and features that pertain specifically to Internet Filtering via SQUID and Dans Guardian with the abilities to be a firewall and router. Initially this will be built to install on x86 and x86_64 with the use of the build service, and by use of kiwi will create a single CD install that can be used to install on a small footprint.

vorkon

vorkon is an abbrevation for the German word "vorkonfiguriert". In English this means "preconfigured". And this is the idea behind project vorkon. It is a kind of "pimp my SUSE" product by Nicolaus Millin Verlag GmbH and is available on DVD. Currently it is based on openSUSE 10.2 and is available in a German version.

Xfce Project

Xfce is a lightweight but fully functional desktop environment. The Xfce Project tries to improve its integration into openSUSE. The aim is to establish Xfce as desktop environment besides GNOME and KDE.

Xgl

Xgl is an X server that uses OpenGL for its drawing operations.

YaST

YaST is the installation and configuration tool for openSUSE/SUSE Linux. It is popular for its easy use and attractive interface and the capability to quickly customize your system during or after the installation. YaST guides you through the installation of openSUSE/SUSE Linux. The installation is divided into a few steps. YaST can be used to configure a wide range of settings, like hardware, system, security, network, etc.

ZENworks Linux Management Client

The ZENworks Linux Management Client is in use by almost one million Linux users running a broad range of Linux distributions world wide. This new version of the client, written in C# (Mono), supports apt, open carpet, Red Carpet and ZENworks Linux Management software repositories. Software packages are presented to users in easy-to-understand groupings. A simple subscription metaphor is used to present software to end-users. The client runs as a system daemon. It has a modular architecture and both command line and graphical user interfaces.

KIWI-LTSP

KIWI-LTSP aims to provide easy to install server for diskless clients using openSUSE KIWI Imaging technology.

Portable_SUSE

PortableSuSE is a converter script which converts an existing system (the one currently running, or one on a seperate harddisk) to a system which is able to run off a USB-HDD or USB-ZIP drive.
