Usability Study 2007
Motivation
- New design and workflow for the installation according to the target group
Target group
- Non-Linux users with basic or intermediate-experienced computer knowledge Goal: “I want to install Linux on my PC but I want keep my Windows system and my data”
Sample
- 12 Subjects
- Gender: female (6), male (6)
- Age: 22 - 27
- PC-knowledge: basic knowledge (1), experienced without technical skills (8), experienced with technical skills (3)
Study Design: Comparative Test
- Two test conditions: openSUSE 10.2 installation vs. Ubuntu 7.04 live CD installation
- Same amount of female and male subject have randomly been assigned to each test condition
- Method: mixed, observation and questionnaires
- Video observation with “thinking aloud”- method
- Mood questionnaires (2-3) during waiting time
- Socio-demographic questionnaire

- How do representative users of the target group cope with the openSUSE 10.2 installation?
- How do representative users of the target group cope with the Ubuntu 7.04 live-CD installation?
- Does the subjects moods change during the waiting time of the installations ?
- Is there a difference in change in mood between the 2 test conditions?
- Is there a difference in the subjective assessment of usability between the 2 test conditions?
- Is there a difference in the subjective assessment of perceived attractiveness between the 2 test conditions?
