Non OSS Software on Media

What are we talking about?

The current end user license (EULA) doesn't allow redistribution of our software. This is not good for our project which aims to make openSUSE the easiest Linux distribution for anyone to obtain and the most widely used open source platform. To address this issue we would need to remove some software which restricts us of allowing redistribution of our software. To follow the discussion check the mailinglist.

What would stay on the media?

On the media would remain the magic firmware which is proprietary but allows redistribution and make for most of our users the use of our software convenient such as:

  • adaptec
  • ipw
  • ivtv
  • iscan
  • iwl
  • ralink
  • all firmware we ship today

What we would offer via online repository?

  • acroread
  • antivir
  • flashplayer (offered by default for installation)
  • fluendo plug-in (offered by default for installation)
  • moneyplex
  • Opera
  • SEPsesam
  • unrar
