From openSUSE
Introduction
Moblin is an open source project that provides an optimized Linux platform for the next generation of mobile devices including netbooks, mobile Internet devices (MIDs), in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems, and other embedded devices. Moblin is optimized for Intel® Atom™ Processor-based devices.
On April 2nd 2009, The Linux Foundation (LF), the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux, announced it will host Moblin. Linux Foundation to Host Moblin Project
On May 19th 2009, Imad Sousou of Intel announced on behalf of the Moblin steering committee the release of Moblin v2.0 beta for Netbooks and Nettops for developer testing. Moblin v2.0 beta for Netbooks and Nettops - It's here...
On September 24th 2009, Imad Sousou of Intel announced on behalf of the Moblin steering committee the release of Moblin v2.0. The release came at the same time as the announcement of a community preview of Moblin v2.1. Moblin v2.0, The Moblin Garage, and Moblin v2.1
Novell is working closely with Intel and the Linux Foundation to bring this innovative and completely new user experience to end-users by developing e-mail, windows management and multi-media applications optimized to run on netbooks with Moblin v2.0. In the past attempts at designing user interfaces for netbooks always stopped at the application launcher. Well not anymore with Moblin v2.0.
Novell is engaged with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) to productize SUSE(r) Moblin on netbooks. The operating system with the Moblin netbook user experience will come pre-installed from the manufacturer ensure that every component is properly enabled by the OEM and Novell.
In the meantime, if you are interested in test driving the Moblin user interface on openSUSE, the thriving openSUSE community has provided packages for the Moblin projects on openSUSE 11.1. You can find out more about these from Andrew Wafaa's blog entry here. This is made possible by the great capabilities of the openSUSE Build Service.
The official website for the Moblin project can be found here: moblin.org.
The Intel team was kind enough to acknowledge that Moblin v2.0 is built using the openSUSE Build Service. We are really happy to have Moblin as an user of the Build Service. They have done fantastic work with it. Build Service/PoweredBy
