(18:00:12) localhorst: Welcome to the openSUSE status meeting, as usual the agenda for today: 1. Status 1.1 Distribution 1.2 Communication 1.3 Buildservice 2. Events LWE San Francisco Guadec aKademy Froscon 3. Q&A (18:00:24) localhorst: Status: adrianS? (18:01:19) localhorst: adrianS: (18:01:37) adrianS: Distribution status ... (18:01:44) adrianS: we did the upgrade to gcc 4.2 (18:02:08) adrianS: this can cause some hazzle during update atm, manually selection packages depending on libstdc++ (18:02:20) adrianS: a fix is already in the queue for this (18:02:46) adrianS: OpenOffice.org will be splitted up into several sub packages (18:02:50) adrianS: like -writer (18:03:11) adrianS: And the YaST people do start to experiment with their heavy libzypp changes (18:03:21) adrianS: but this will happen outside of factory for now (18:03:32) adrianS: I think that (18:03:38) adrianS: 's it for the distro (18:03:44) adrianS: any distro related questions ? (18:03:50) localhorst: will there be a repo for the libzypp packages? (18:03:52) _Marcus_: libzypp will arrive ? (18:03:54) _Marcus_: when? (18:04:19) adrianS: as far as I understood it is more a question of days ... (18:04:33) adrianS: but it is unknown when it will come to Factory (18:04:58) _Marcus_: i actually talked to Edith and she said before beta1. :) (18:05:01) adrianS: there will be of course a build service repo, if people want to play with it ;) (18:05:07) localhorst: cool (18:05:18) apokryphos: could we really not get webcam drivers (the GPL ones) into 10.3? It's really very tough for users to set up (18:05:35) localhorst: they are already in factory ... i just looked :-) (18:05:35) adrianS: hm, sure ... (18:05:36) apokryphos: the packages are even already in the OBS (18:05:41) _Marcus_: apokryphos: there are already some in (18:05:51) _Marcus_: uvcvideo and gspcav (18:05:59) apokryphos: awesome :) (18:06:04) adrianS: do some other miss ? (18:06:15) apokryphos: gspcav is the updated spca5xx, right? (18:06:19) _Marcus_: i think yes (18:06:20) localhorst: right (18:06:27) localhorst: in obs we have both ... (18:06:47) apokryphos: ok, great :). Kopete supports webcam out-of-the-box so it'll be great for users :) (18:07:06) raazman: sweet (18:07:29) adrianS: can we move on ? (18:07:40) localhorst: other questions about distribution? (18:08:28) localhorst: ok, next topic: 1.2 Communication, thats me ... (18:08:48) localhorst: nothing new from me. Frank is working on the new layout, see posts on the list. I will finaly make the 3 missing wikis next week ... apokryphos: bugslashing is this weekend? (18:09:52) localhorst: apokryphos: ? (18:10:17) |dl9pf|: info page about bugslahing ? or a checklist ? (18:10:35) localhorst: we will announce it, with a wiki page and a checklist (18:10:36) apokryphos: I don't think it's going to be possible : ( (18:11:03) localhorst: apokryphos: fine with me, this weekend is stuffed ... but we should do it soon (18:11:22) apokryphos: a few people have said they can't and I can't make it as well. If someone else could pick up things it would be great, but if not I think we'll have to delay it unfortunately (18:11:43) localhorst: ok (18:12:04) localhorst: questions about communication? (18:12:27) cb400f: guideline draft? (18:12:49) adrianS: guiding principels ? (18:12:53) cb400f: yup (18:12:55) localhorst: cschum is working on it (18:12:55) michl19: cornelius works on draft incorporated the feedback (18:13:03) michl19: this should be public soon (18:14:01) localhorst: ok, next topic: 1.3 Buildservice ... adrianS again (18:14:21) adrianS: maybe someone noticed already new build hosts .... (18:14:44) |dl9pf|:  :) (18:14:46) adrianS: there will be an anounced for them, but what is the great thing about it, it allows us to build Factory in the distro (18:14:53) adrianS: s,distro, build server, (18:15:08) adrianS: So, we will enable Factory build today, but not yet sync it out (18:15:31) adrianS: the internal stream will remain so far, until we can say that the result from the build service can be used as a distro base (18:15:44) adrianS: and there are still some known technical issues ... (18:16:03) adrianS: the api update yesterday gives us permission handling (18:16:16) adrianS: so, from now on, only admins can create root projects (18:16:36) adrianS: but users can still create projects, if the upper project is owned by them (18:16:52) adrianS: so, you can still create home:<user>:my_other_project (18:17:07) adrianS: or KDE:KDE5 , if you are allowed to write to KDE (18:17:29) adrianS: unfortunatly there are also problems caused by the update (18:17:35) adrianS: we do work on them (18:17:46) adrianS: maybe you will need a new osc, we will see (18:17:59) adrianS: any questions regarding the build service ? (18:18:03) instlux-jordimas: I have a question about implementing custom distros (install cds, livecds, xen images ...) using the OBS. Do you think this will be possible? If so when? (18:18:17) adrianS: it is possible already for system images (18:18:33) apokryphos: instlux-jordimas: there's the KIWI project <http://opensuse.org/KIWI> which is going to make this possible (18:18:34) adrianS: like live cds, xen images (18:18:41) adrianS: have a look for "KIWI" in our wiki (18:18:53) instlux-jordimas: ok i'll do it for sure! (18:18:55) adrianS: KIWI will also be used to create install cds in future (18:19:12) adrianS: the config for our official LiveCD is part of KIWI btw (18:19:22) adrianS: or look at the KDE4 config from Stephan Binner (18:19:53) Beineri: KDE Four Live (18:19:53) adrianS: any further questions ? (18:19:59) instlux-jordimas: if we want to build a community around, I understand we can use the OBS. Is Kiwi integrated into the OBS or plans for that? Sorry for the very beginners quetions (18:20:22) adrianS: instlux-jordimas: one of the next steps is to host kiwi configs in the build service (18:20:27) raazman: (18:20:32) adrianS: so projects can bring their configs (18:20:48) instlux-jordimas: I see. Thanks (18:20:51) adrianS: I dunno how we will intergrate it in the frontends on tools though ... (18:21:00) adrianS: also for patterns btw (18:21:16) apokryphos: a yast frontend for kiwi is also in the works (18:21:20) adrianS: we will have support to support patterns (package lists) quite soon (18:21:31) adrianS: they will be used to create .ymp files automatically (18:21:38) adrianS: to support yast2-mpp from Benjamin Weber (18:22:11) adrianS: other questions ? (18:22:38) adrianS: k, localhorst: move on ... (18:22:40) localhorst: k (18:22:53) localhorst: 2. Events, me again (18:23:01) localhorst: - LWE: nothing new, nearly everthing is settled - Guadec/aKademy: we are on both sponsor and a lot developers from Novell/SUSE will be there - Froscon: no talk from us ... (18:23:54) localhorst: something else i forgot and which is not really settled right now: LWE netherlands and open expo in zuerich (18:24:05) localhorst: questions? (18:25:25) localhorst: ok, next: 3. Q&A, no questions on the wiki ... other questions? (18:25:46) apokryphos: I forgot to ask in distribution, but will 10.3 likely have Xorg 7.3? (18:26:01) apokryphos: seems to have a few nice new features and other distributions around the time seem to be adopting it too (18:26:22) cb400f: doesn't trust xorg roadmap since 10.2 (18:26:35) adrianS: apokryphos: dunno yet, I need to ask (18:27:14) adrianS: but we have a OBS project already, hope is there ;) (18:27:15) raazman: will there be more supported hardware, like printers (18:28:04) adrianS: raazman: in general yes, but this is a brought question ... (18:29:00) localhorst: other questions? (18:29:32) raazman: is kde4 going to be implemented by default? (18:29:41) raazman: or will it be 3,5? (18:29:55) cb400f: 3.5.x + kde 4 elements is default (18:30:02) cb400f: kde4 preview also available (18:30:05) raazman: k (18:30:32) cb400f: also gnome for the adventurous (18:30:32) raazman: so kde 4 will not be available untill after 10.3 is released (18:30:59) localhorst: bug Beineri to work faster :-) (18:31:40) localhorst: ok, thanks everybody for the shortest meeting ever, next meeting in 2 weeks :-) ... now beergarden :-)
