Your Name Question/Comment
Felix Möller How is one supposed to follow factory? I am using smart and upgrade every three days or so, but since all packages are always rebuilt now, it takes quiete some time. One update takes at least two hours. I think testers might be lost by this.
Pascal Bleserfor 10.3: add a .desktop for KDE and GNOME that starts the preferred IRC client (respectively konversation or xchat, are already included in the default patterns) and directly connects to #suse on freenode.net (label it "online help" or something), will make it a lot easier for beginners to get interactive help on IRC (see see here)

Note that we should probably create another room instead of using #suse, with stricter rules and code of conduct (no newbie bashing, ...) -- at least, something to consider and think about.

Palimpseste Will there be some improvement concerning the yast package repositories of ATI drivers? Currently you have the problem that the driver offered in the yast repository of ATI is much older than the currently available driver in the regular download section of the ATI homepage. Every time I update my kernel (via yast) I have to reinstall the whole ATI driver stuff. I furthermore cannot use the regular driver in the yast repository for the simple reason that it does not support my notebook's graphic card. Since I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 Notebook I would just guess that there are many normal users out there who have a similar problem (because they have the same notebook) but do not want (or are not able) to use the ATI official driver, simply because they are normal users and use their PC for Office applications and nothing more. If you really want to offer openSUSE to a broader spectrum of users, you have think especially about those users that try to avoid any usage of console commands as often as possible (normal users are scared of the console, and are hard to convince that the console (or a CUI in general) is not that hard to use). The current situation is not acceptable (though I appreciate that we now HAVE at least a repository for ATI driver updates, but there is no sense in a repository for updates if there are no updates inside).
Palimpseste Recently saw the solution Ubuntu offeres for the installation of proprietary codecs Screenshot . Wouldn't that be a possibility for openSUSE, too? So offer the users a repository with the codecs but inform them that they themselves are responsible and liable for anything they install on their computers. So if it is illegal in the individual user's country to use the codec than he himself is liable for the installation and no one else. Is something similar planned for openSUSE 10.3?

BartOtten note: This could be done by Pascals project I guess. See the post from Benjamin Weber. I give both post +10 votes. This should really be discussed and there should be some action from Novell/SUSE.

Kevin How will openSUSE 10.3 be distributed? Will it be available in boxed editions in North America stores again?
Georg Version of postgresql. Will there be a bump in the next alpha? Should there be filed a bug?

Please file an enhancement request in Bugzilla against openSUSE 10.3. -Msmeissn

Francis Giannaros Any more thoughts on FATE? It was posted on the list and there was no feedback (since almost everyone was busy on SP1, I guess) except cboltz who mentioned that "there's already a "partner.FATE" web interface which supports permissions etc. So as a first step you could define a partner (aka permission flag) "openSUSE community" and create FATE accounts on request." ...so it probably shouldn't be as hard to set up?
Cameron Would like to get clarification on direction of libzypp and package management. Also whats happening with zmd. Just a bit of a roadmap in general of what is going on with package management for the future.
usER Hi I'm just a user, is there any support for Aspera Software high speed file transfer @ opensuse 10.3 linux? We're using aspera and opensuse 10.2 as ftp servers but we're forced to replace the suse with redhat 9 since we cant install it to suse but we can in redhat 9. Thanks!

You should really ask Aspera Software for support I think, since it is commercial software. We can't really tell. I see however no reason why it should not work in 10.3. -Msmeissn

Ark_mage2 I am curious about what theming will be included in openSUSE 10.3, will it use the same KDE theme in 10.2? Or will there be a new theme? Also, with the increased use and popularity of Compiz (along with it's merge with beryl) should we implement a unique openSUSE Compiz theme in 10.3?
