Agenda

18:01 < cthiel> as henne is on vacation and others are travelling, it's my pleasure to head todays meeting...
18:01 < adrianD> but this is anyway a worldwide meeting ...
18:01 < cthiel> Welcome to the openSUSE Status Meeting!
18:01 < cthiel> This meeting is meant to discuss the latest developments in
18:01 < cthiel> and around openSUSE.
18:01 < cthiel> We have the following items on the agenda today:
18:01 < cthiel> * Status 10.2
18:01 < cthiel> * Status wiki
18:01 < cthiel> * Status build service
18:01 < cthiel> * Q/A session

Status 10.2

18:02 < cthiel> let's start with 10.2 status
18:02 < cthiel> looks like AJ isn't there, so I'm going to give you a short update on 10.2's status
18:03 < cthiel> we are currently working on stabilizing Factory, to make sure Alpha5 can be mastered next week
18:03 < cthiel> some packages aren't building because of the upgrade to python 2.5, but those should be fixed very soon.
18:04 < adrianD> planned versoin updates are glibc python and db and kde and gnome later ?
18:04 < cthiel> the main blocker that I have on my list is (most likely) related to hal, which is breaking installing from CD/DVD on some boxes right now
18:04 < cthiel> adrianD: python is already at 2.5 -- glibc will be upgraded I guess
18:05 < cthiel> adrianD: gnome is a 2.16.0, IIUC
18:05 < cthiel> and db should go in as well
18:05 < cthiel> the details can be found on the factory news page that Beineri keeps
18:06 < houghi> URL please
18:06 < adrianD> http://en.opensuse.org/Factory/News
18:06 < cthiel> are there any questions concerning 10.2 --> otherwise I'd suggest to go with status on build service & wiki and do Q/A later.

Status Build Service

18:07 < cthiel> ok -- status build service, adrianD?
18:08 < adrianD> okay, development does only happen very low atm, because most of the developers are on vacation or in Dublin with me
18:08 < adrianD> for the KDE aKademy conference
18:08 < adrianD> we lost 16 build instances, so the build power is also a bit lower atm
18:08 < adrianD> due to hardware issues
18:09 < schaefi> adrian is there still a problem with xen build ?
18:09 < adrianD> it looks like we will speed up next month, since we get our new working room
18:09 < adrianD> schiele: yes, but it is disabled atm
18:09 < cthiel> s/schiele/schaefi/ :)
18:09 < adrianD> will come back next week I think
18:09 < schaefi> adrian: ok
18:09 < adrianD> that is it from me
18:09 < houghi> Will there be some website to the build service for users to use, or another interface, because now all people see are some directories they can add.
18:10 < adrianD> houghi: yes, software.opensuse.org will get a search and browse interface
18:10 < adrianD> und the installation will be integrated into our tools
18:10 < darix> houghi: we already take care that the project count doesnt raise without any reasons.
18:11 < houghi> darix: What do you mean?
18:11 < darix> houghi: less projects. less directories you have to look through
18:11 < cthiel> darix, houghi: could you please stick with the topic
18:11 < darix> and we try to group them by topics
18:11 < darix> cthiel: it is buildservice status right?
18:12 < cthiel> adrianD, more to come?
18:12 < houghi> Sorry, I thought I was sticking to the subject.
18:12 < adrianD> cthiel: nope
18:12 < darix> houghi: dont know where the problem of cthiel is

Status Wiki

18:12 < cthiel> alright -- so, let's continue with wiki status.
18:13 < adrianD> Martin is also on tour this week, doing his Evanglism job
18:13 < cthiel> I talked to Frank today about the relaunch of the openSUSE.org wiki frontpage and the openSUSE.org splash.
18:14 < cthiel> he is currently busy with 10.2 documentation and hopes to give the frontpage the final touch until Oct. 20th
18:14 < cthiel> we might get it our earlier -- but could end up launching it Oct. 20th
18:14 < cthiel> darix, anything from your side on the wiki?
18:15 < adrianD> darix: any news reagarding the news.opensuse.org integration into the wiki ?
18:16 < cthiel> I take it there is none?
18:16 < darix> adrianD: i debug net-snmp
18:16 < houghi> What is news.opensuse.org?
18:17 < Beineri> houghi: a site the news agregators or 10.1 point to
18:17 < adrianD> houghi: a planned location for our RSS feed
18:17 < Beineri> of

Q & A

18:17 < cthiel> alright -- then it's time for the Q&A part of todays meeting.
18:17 < cthiel> let's have a look at the questions on http://en.opensuse.org/Meetings/Status_Meeting_2006-09-26
18:17 < cthiel> 1. question:
18:17 < cthiel> AgBr
18:17 < cthiel> Why there isn't any openSUSE bittorrent web-interface like http://torrent.unix-ag.uni-kl.de/? IMHO It is very useful to see the seeder/leacher list in the browser.
18:17 < cthiel> adrianD?
18:18 < adrianD> well, I conside it as nice to have
18:18 < adrianD> but we would need to do a full audith of the code before
18:18 < darix> cthiel: what do you need to see the other peopls for?
18:18 < adrianD> and I do not see the priorities here for now
18:18 < darix> cthiel: any bittorent client can do that already
18:19 < cthiel> darix: I don't know -- it's not my question.
18:19 < cthiel> but I think adrianDs answer is good for the wiki
18:19 < cthiel> next question:
18:19 < cthiel> from yamaban: Privoxy-3.0.5-Beta is out now. While there are still some not absolutly finished issues, it's a major step-up from 3.0.3. Would it be possible to get this at least in the final release of 10.2? ( It compiles under 10.0, and works fine. I'm just to dumb to get an rpm out of the tar-ball. )
18:20 < darix> cthiel: final release means?
18:20 < darix> 3.0.4?
18:20 < darix> or 3.0.5?
18:20 < cthiel> depending on the release schedule of Privoxy it might still make it into 10.2 -- I'll ping our maintainer about it
18:20 < cthiel> I guess the questions was about 3.0.5 making it into 10.2.
18:20 < cthiel> next question:
18:21 < cthiel> from houghi, Is there any progress in the bugs 203466, 20605, 202079 and 204252? It feels as if nothing is being done. In a semi-related issue, there are many bugs that are open and even still in New or no followup is done, even after repeated pings. e.g. 144620 that is open since January. Is there a policy about changing status from NEW to anything else? Last but not least, what would be a realistic timeframe to expect at least a reaction via bugzilla?
18:21 < Beineri> Bug 203466 - opensuse 10.2 alpha3 booting from cd1 image problem
18:21 < cthiel> houghi: if you don't see any progress on bugs for a while (i.e. weeks), feel free to friendly ping people
18:21 < Beineri> Bug 20605 - variable kvt/xterm in konsole
18:22 < Beineri> these seem like random bug reports to me?
18:22 < houghi> There are several that I have oinged and still nothing happens.
18:22 < adrianD> it should been switched from NEW to something else after reviewing the bugreport
18:22 < cthiel> houghi: I'll go through the list you gave and check if there is anything that needs immediate attention
18:22 < darix> houghi: you can be sure. unless people are on their vacations
18:22 < darix> they all are working.
18:22 < houghi> I can give you much longer list. :-/
18:23 < cthiel> alright ;) --> next question
18:23 < cthiel> again, from houghi: houghi
18:23 < darix> houghi: and i can give you the whole list of work done by the people
18:23 < cthiel> Can the log-out time of openSUSE.org be a bit longer? e.g. 1 hour like on bugzilla.
18:23 < adrianD> yes, that should be possible
18:23 < darix> it is more than 8h
18:23 < adrianD> I will do an request for this
18:23 < cthiel> houghi: I guess it can, please file an enhancement request on bugzilla
18:23 < darix> cthiel: it is normally 8h
18:23 < houghi> Mmm. Must be something on my side then. Sorry. :-(
18:23 < darix> at least it was in the beginning
18:24 < cthiel> houghi: do you have the numbers of bugzilla vs. openSUSE.org?
18:24 < houghi> Will re-check again and file a bugreport if needed.
18:24 < adrianD> cthiel: houghi: I take this as AI, you may want to make anyway a bugreport for it and assign it against me
18:24 < cthiel> otherwise, let's take this offline -> via bugzilla.
18:24 < houghi> OK.
18:24 < cthiel> last question on http://en.opensuse.org/Meetings/Status_Meeting_2006-09-26
18:25 < cthiel> When will http://openSUSE.org be online? -- from houghi
18:25 < cthiel> I guess you are asking for the new splash?
18:25 < houghi> Yes and has already been answerd
18:25 < cthiel> exactly -- it will be online by Oct. 20 (at the latest)
18:26 < cthiel> great -- so, let's open it up for more questions (in case there are any)
18:26 < houghi> Just one more. Will the lists be added to gmane?
18:26 * adrianD needs to run for a picture here ...
18:26 < darix> houghi: why?
18:27 < cthiel> houghi: I thought they are already on gmame -- or at least some?
18:27 < houghi> Because there were discussions in the past that it would be done and some people (e.g. me) prefere it.
18:27 < cthiel> houghi: anyways, that's something for our listadmin --> henne, who is on vacation right now.
18:27 < darix> houghi: and why?
18:28 < houghi> Becase I like to have it as newsfeed
18:28 < darix> oh right. you are no longer mailing.
18:28 < darix> forgot that.
18:29 < cthiel> alright -- no questions? :)
18:30 < cthiel> so, let's conclude this meeting.
18:30 < houghi> Perhaps one the people in Ireland can answer.
18:30 < cthiel> Many thanks for your attendance -- and good bye :)
