Status Questions 18:14 @<henne> you can find the status mails (if they exist) linked from the meeting page 18:14 @<henne> are there any questions about them? 18:15 @<henne> sorry that there are not that many but nearly everybody was at brainshare 18:15 <coolo> and/or had easter vacation :) 18:15 <Beineri> rather Easter 18:15 <yaloki> no questions, as it seems 18:15 @<henne> except coolo who gets sick in planes 18:15 <coolo> henne: they shrink around me 18:15 @<henne> and Beineri who is not allowed into the US 18:16 <Beineri> !fud @ henne 18:16 <SUSEhelp> henne: fud is Fear Uncertainty and Doubt and if you want to spread it, you can /join #opensuse-fud : there will be NO discussion of Novell/MS deal in #SuSE 18:16 <coolo> ok, Q & A and bread shopping! 18:16 @<henne> heh 18:16 @<henne> okay. then the next topic: Q&A 18:16 @<henne> first from the wiki 18:16 @<henne> madferret asks why the redirector is not HA'ed 18:16 <coolo> the hardware is ordered 18:17 <madferret> henne, there is a 2nd part in the question 18:17 <coolo> HA solutions aren't exactly cheap and we preferred to get a solution at all 18:17 <madferret> coolo, ETA on the hardware? 18:17 @<henne> madferret: i know :) 18:18 <coolo> madferret: no 18:18 @<henne> hm duncan is already gone it seems... 18:19 <madferret> so its been worked out, will be ready sometime in the future, no ETA 18:19 <madferret> got it 18:19 <yaloki> great :) 18:19 <madferret> outstanding 18:19 @<henne> ill pinged duncan in the bug 18:20 <coolo> and the fallback feature has good chances to get done, but it depends on so many things 18:20 @<henne> you guys really think we watch out of the window all day dont you? jeez 18:20 @<henne> lets hear what duncan has to say about it in the bug 18:21 @<henne> the second question: are there any plans to include some (full versions of) commercial products in the box version of the upcoming openSUSE 11.0? 18:21 @<henne> michl19? 18:21 <michl19> currently no plans 18:22 @<henne> straight answer :) 18:22 <yaloki> no adobe reader? 18:22 <michl19> with DVD codecs we tried over the last years 18:22 <coolo> yaloki: that's not a full version, that's a reader 18:22 <yaloki> coolo: ok 18:22 <michl19> and received non competitive offers - meaning much to expensive 18:23 <coolo> yaloki: and it's not commercial either, just not open source :) 18:23 <yaloki> coolo: trying to understand what's meant with "full versions" and "commercial products" 18:23 <michl19> yaloki: on the free but proprietary stuff almost no changes 18:23 <yaloki> michl19: ok, thanks 18:23 @<henne> michl19: planmaker and textmaker are gone 18:23 <yaloki> oh, I'd have a proposal though 18:23 <michl19> that's meant by almost 18:23 <yaloki> this is probably the most ridiculous bug and situation ever 18:23 @<henne> ;) 18:23 <yaloki> https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=262319 18:23 <bugbot> openSUSE bug 262319 in openSUSE 10.2 (Commercial) "Sorry state of Novell Client on openSUSE" [Normal,New] 18:23 <yaloki> Novell Client 18:24 <coolo> ok, can I go buying bread now? I'll get real trouble if I don't 18:24 <sontek> This might not be a good question but whats the reason behind having the security settings set so all users can get in each others home by default? and can this be changed (setup a default acl, or user private groups). I know you can change the setting through yast (which then breaks the updater and you have to setuid to it) 18:25 @<henne> yaloki: so whats your question? :) 18:25 <yaloki> michl19: any chance to have some... "management attention" on that bug ? the situation is ludicrous and going on for months and months with whatever people in Provo just pushing the bug around to each other but no fix nor position taken on it 18:25 <sontek> but I have a lot of friends who teach RHCE and they all ask why suse doesn't have that by default 18:25 <yaloki> henne: and on a related note, well.. it could be included with openSUSE 18:26 <benJIman> sontek: Perhaps ask on the opensuse-security mailing list. 18:26 <michl19> I try to get some management attention for that 18:26 @<henne> thanks michl19 18:26 <yaloki> michl19: thank you very much :) 18:26 <rhorstkoetter> sorry for offtopic, but is opensuse.org down at the moment - no change to access the site here 18:27 <yaloki> rhorstkoetter: it's down, indeed 18:27 @<henne> sontek: sounds like a feature (the acl part) 18:27 @<henne> i would stick that to coolo 18:27 @<henne> sontek: the right place to push that is the opensuse-factory mailinglist 18:27 <yaloki> 504 gateway timeout @ichain 18:27 <sontek> benJIman: henne: thanks 18:28 <rhorstkoetter> yaloki: same here 18:28 <benJIman> Well there are two questions, one is why the default is to allow other users access to other users' homes. The other is a feature request for ACLs 18:28 @<henne> okay any other questions? 18:28 <yaloki> but d.o.o is still there \o/ 18:28 <yaloki> sontek: it's clearly a good point, I don't see any reason to not set homes to 700 by default 18:29 * benJIman wanders off. 18:29 <rhorstkoetter> i wanted to ask if there are any usb images available for download on software.o.o? 18:29 @<henne> usb images of what? 18:29 <michl19> I guess of 10.3 18:29 <michl19> or even higher 18:29 <rhorstkoetter> yes 18:29 <sontek> rhorstkoetter: you can make a bootable usb image with syslinux 18:30 @<henne> there are also prebuild ones 18:30 <sontek> rhorstkoetter: the required images are on the openSUSE DVD to do so 18:30 @<henne> who did those? coolo? 18:30 <rhorstkoetter> I know, but that's pretty difficult for the not so advanced users 18:30 <michl19> can't we offer USB images at download.opensuse.org? 18:30 <rhorstkoetter> I was involved in FATE there, but I have no access anymore - unfortunately  :) 18:31 <sontek> rhorstkoetter: http://blog.sontek.net/2007/09/28/installing-suse-without-a-cd-rom/ Its rather simple, copy images to the disk, run syslinux, but I agree, if there isn't downloadable ones, there should be 18:31 @<henne> there are downloadable ones 18:31 <michl19> where are they hidden? 18:31 @<henne> just not on download.o.o but on some wiki page or something 18:31 * henne cant look where 18:32 <sontek> henne: is there a reason they aren't offered on the download page? 18:32 <michl19> k, let's put a "ping henne for USB images" on the download page 18:32 @<henne> sontek: yes they are pre-alpha afair 18:32 <rhorstkoetter> I mean something like a ready to use usb live images, that users could just "dd" to devices 18:32 @<henne> michl19: thats something for 11.0 18:32 <michl19> indeed 18:33 @<henne> and afaik coolo is also working on it 18:33 <rhorstkoetter> would be nice  :) 18:33 <sontek> henne: wouldn't something like copying the install initrd/kernel to a usb stick, running syslinux on it, and then making that into an iso work ? 18:33 @<henne> okay any other questions? 18:33 <sontek> none from me =) 18:33 @<henne> sontek: we have kiwi for that 18:34 @<henne> Okay that was it then. If you have more, dont hesitate to bring it up on the appropriate mailinglist. 18:34 @<henne> The next project meeting will be at the 9th of April. Same channel but this time at 12:00 GMT!!! 18:34 @<henne> The next meeting is the KDE meeting now over at #opensuse-kde. 18:34 @<henne> s/now/in 30 miniutes/ 18:34 @<henne> Thank you all for participating. Good night and good luck!
