| Marcio | Why the redirector is not redundant and when it fails it leaves all the opensuse boxes in the planet failing to access packages or updates? No money? No will? No time?
Is this issue, according to AJ at board meeting, being worked so actively that nobody has the time to check this bug https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=369531 or answer this thread http://lists.opensuse.org/zypp-devel/2008-03/msg00046.html ? TIA |
| Palimpseste | Hi! I haven't observed the meetings for quite some time now, so I hope I do not ask a question which was already answered in one of the last meetings. (I do not have the time to skip through all transcripts). To put it straight: are there any plans to include some (full versions of) commercial products in the box version of the upcoming openSUSE 11.0? I recently noticed that Mandriva, for instance, adds Cedega and LinDVD to its box-version (Manrdiva Powerpack), which costs roughly the same amount of money as the box version of openSUSE. Though, the quality of openSUSE is, in my opinion, much higher I still ask myself, if it would not be better to include some commercial/proprietary products within the box. Quality does not always pay off, since most people who pay money for something do so because they want to go the easy way. Especially since one has to pay 40€ for a product that one can download for free anyway (and gets only some evaluation versions of commercial products). I would even pay some more Euros if there would be not only MP3 and WMV/WMA (yeah I hate it too, but one needs it) support but also Cedega to run games and LinDVD to view encrypted DVDs. I know that you have been working on a solution for the MP3 support (and codec stuff in general). But there are still enough issues left to be solved and I ask myself it it would not be easier to add this all, nicely packaged, to the box version. If somebody with computer skills wants codecs and support for encrypted DVDs he adds the right repositories and all is done (and usually these persons do download openSUSE anyway). But those that buy the box version are mostly those guys that want their OS to be installed and then just see it run without any configurations (like in Windows). |
