Introduction

Speaker: mw (06:05:18 PM) mw: Hello everybody, and welcome to this week's openSUSE GNOME meeting mw: You can have a look at this week's agenda at http://en.opensuse.org/GNOME/Meetings/Current mw: I don't have anything else to add at this point, so let's move ahead to the actual topics of discussino

Helping Hands Update

'Speaker: suseROCKS (06:07:14 PM) mw: Well, suseROCKs isn't here FunkyPenguin: but he did mail in mw: FunkyPenguin: oh? what did he say? hub: mw: posted on opensuse-gnome FunkyPenguin: he's looking for a volunteer for next week, unfortunately the f-spot team have been a bit slow to respond sreeves: and a reminder that tomorrows presentation is on inkscape mw: hub: yeah, but i did a factory update and evo is currently broken hub: mw: I know you pain. I'm in t-bird atm ...hub does not even run factory FunkyPenguin: any volunteers or suggestions for nextweek? neednt be totally gnome related either rodrigo_: video editing!! rodrigo_: if someone knows mw: well, something to think about

11.0 updates

Speaker: hpj, jpr, rodrigo, sreeves, federico1, hub (06:13:25 PM) mw: anyway, how about 11.0 updates mw: ? mw: hpj, jpr, rodrigo_, sreeves, federico1, hub? sreeves: there is an updated PackageKit in the updates channel rodrigo_: for pulseaudio, some fixes have been submitted and now accepted, and a few others, backports from 0.9.11 in FACTORY are getting submitted in the next few days hub: for empathy and telepathy, the stack is up to date sreeves: the new PK should get rid of the annoying "failed to reset ..." you sometimes see federico1: one sec sreeves: and it now will return all available package managment updates in one bunch sreeves: and now will restart itself properly federico1: we had a bunch of proposed updates for various packages, but they were rejected (https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=412722) bugbot: openSUSE bug 412722 in openSUSE 11.0 (GNOME) "Some GNOME updates for openSUSE 11.0" [Major,Resolved: wontfix] federico1: so I'll take only the critical bugs out of those and re-submit them, and try to get individual patched packages for the rest into people's repositories mw: ok mw: hpj: jpr_: are you two around? jpr_: i am cgoncalves [n=carlos@ns1.pinguix.net] entered the room. ...jpr_ forgot the time mw: jpr_: anything new wrt yast-gtk? jpr_: yast-gtk update is in testing jpr_: it should be out shortly jpr_: if not already mw: cool jpr_: in general the flow of maintenance updates seems to have freed up lately mw: i don't think hpj is in yet, so if nobody has anything else to bring up on the subject of 11.0 updates, we can move along hub: yeah hub: I mistunderstood when I made the statement earlier hub: for empathy and telepathy, the stack is up to date IN Factory. no update has been made for 11.0 mw: hub: ok. are you planning one? hub: no. hub: unless I get asked hub: the telepathy project in OBS is aslo up to date for 11.0 users :-) mw: ok mw: well, i guess people who want it should know what to do hub: I think the this should be still stamped as experimental in 11.0 hub: mw: I haven't seen any bug report specific to SUSE mw: hub: that's good :)

Policy stuff

Speaker: vuntz (06:24:25 PM) mw: vuntz|afk: around? if so, anything new in the realm of policy? jpr_: vuntz is at akademy mw: ah, right rodrigo_: vuntz|afk is out mw: ok

Feature review

Speaker: jpr (06:24:54 PM) jpr_: no change from last week, which is ever more poor given feature freeze is 4 weeks jpr_: or so mw: jpr_: how about feature review? jpr_: i did make some updates on the ideas page as mentioned jpr_: and i need to figure out how to open features in fate ...jpr_ will shoot for monday mw: ok jpr_: assuming i can get this bug handling stuff off my plate jpr_: i think thats about it right now mw: cool

Features update

Speaker: Printing (vuntz), Pulseaudio (rodrigo), Multiscreen (federico), GDM (hpj), NetworkManager (tambet), PackageKit (sreeves), and main menu (sreeves) (06:28:04 PM) mw: one person at a time. mw: rodrigo_: you're first :) rodrigo_: ok, no news this week on PA, since I've been mostly backporting fixes to 11.0 for some bugs rodrigo_: but changes for using PA system-wide should start landing soon mw: cool jpr_: rodrigo_: do we need to add people to groups or anything to work properly? jpr_: or will that all just go away? rodrigo_: yes, this time we'll need it rodrigo_: we don't do it right now rodrigo_: but for multi-user systems, I think we will need it rodrigo_: still need to sort out all the details with yast, sound and kde teams rodrigo_: and that's all :) mw: ok mw: federico1: anything new with the multiscreen stuff? federico1: mw: monitor-labels.png jpr_: oooh federico1: and I'm working on the tray icon now. It's what is going to replace resapplet, and it will provide mainly rotation commands for tablets and swivel monitors sreeves: for PK and main-menu there are planned updates for A2 coming out end of next week. I will give an update on what made it then federico1: so as soon as the osc branches give me love, I'll be able to submit this federico1: mw: can you add me as maintainer to GNOME:Factory, btw? federico1: I don't have permissions to add myself :) jpr_: sreeves: is there are target for the 0.3.x series? sreeves: heh, I have been wondering about when we should try and cut over sreeves: not yet federico1: mw: btw, if you look at gnome-desktop inside GNOME:Factory, it says "could not apply patch project.diff" - do you know what's up with that? mw: federico1: yes, will explain later federico1: mw: thanks mw: as for gdm, it is in Factory now, and i successfully used it to log in this morning metavoid: hm, are there any plans to include gksu into factory? I has some useful features, that gnomesu doesn't mw: tambeti: anything new and interesting happening in NetworkManager? i know you made some submissions earlier in the week that i sent along to Factory tambeti: yes! The big news is that... tambeti: anyone who has tried to use NM with yast configuration must have seen all sorts of issues jpr_: metavoid: no - rather see things migrate to policykit instead tambeti: and the exciting thing is, all these issues are gone with the submission! mw: hehe jpr_: tell us how oh NM guru tambeti: this is achieved by not supporting yast configuration in NM at all tambeti: we'll need some changes to yast to make it clear there and possibly to provide a link to open NM's connection editor instead if NM is used tambeti: the reason for dropping yast support is that the two don't mach well, have always caused a lot of confusion and never worked tambeti: and now that NM supports everything a dekstop user needs, we can do it tambeti: that is all mw: nice rodrigo_: how would it work on installations? if the user selects NM, would it run the NM config? tambeti: I was thinking about writing a script that installer can call at the end of installation that creates a NM conifguration from whatever information installer has tambeti: so that people don't need to configure network twice rodrigo_: yeah, that was my worry, so yeah, the script should work I guess decriptor: tambeti: this in alpha2? tambeti: decriptor: that script isn't, NM that ignores yast settings is jpr_: tambeti: so we got rid of the sync to system settings stuff? jpr_: tambeti: how does NM determine what to do at boot time? tambeti: NM provides a way to create system settings (which will be used at boot time) metavoid: jpr_, will it be ready by 11.1 release? jpr_: metavoid: policykit has been in since 10.3, but no it will not be a complete solution in 11.1 jpr_: but there is no sense investing at gtksu integration when its a dead end jpr_: metavoid: in Q&A we can discuss the missing gnomesu features :-) jpr_: (maybe i'm wrong...) mw: ok, the next item on the agenda was to discuss getting a bugzilla product for action items mw: i think that's stalled jpr_: yes, because we need a clarity item jpr_: which is an internal tool ...jpr_ is not keen on that metavoid: jpr_, I'm not that familiar with policykit, but it would be nice to have a possibility to display a message to user when lauching an application with privileges metavoid: jpr_, does PK allow that? mw: jpr_: nod. in general, it's a problem that bugzilla is used by groups with very different needs, but adminned by people only aware of the needs of one of those groups metavoid: jpr_, I mean a custom user-defined message

Agenda for next meeting

Speaker: everybody (06:51:03 PM) mw: Anybody with important agenda items? jpr_: mostly the same as now mw: ok, thought so :) jpr_: but i'd like to get together with hobbsc and discuss some bug handling stuff jpr_: and maybe present something FunkyPenguin: who's in nue during hackweek? decriptor: jpr_: I'm interested in making sure all a11y stuff is up to date jpr_: decriptor: great decriptor: jpr_: who can I work with on that? jpr_: metavoid: no, it bases the message on the service being activated jpr_: decriptor: suseROCKS for testing, hpj knows some about it

Q&A

(06:54:19 PM) jpr_: decriptor: you can just submit everything to GNOME:Factory as well decriptor: jpr_: ok sounds good. I need to come up with a list of packages. We are also working with/on get at-spi onto dbus. Testers wanted? decriptor: anyone brave enough :) ...decriptor maybe something on the agenda for the future :) jpr_: mw: are we done? jpr_: :-) mw: jpr_: yes, i think so
