openSUSE Teams

Join us on IRC: irc://irc.freenode.net/opensuse-marketing or use Freenode Webchat to join in!

Members of the openSUSE Marketing Team will work to:

  • Ensure we publicize community events and meetings to maximize turnout and participation
  • Create presentations and materials that can be reused to promote openSUSE
  • Create artwork, banners, Buttons, etc. for openSUSE
  • Help organize launch parties, local events, install fests, and talks at LUGs
  • Support the openSUSE booth at shows
  • Give presentations about openSUSE, the openSUSE Build Service, Linux, and other related topics to interested groups (presentation templates)
  • Refine openSUSE mission statements slogans, etc.

Things we're working on (where you can help!)

  • Staffing and attending FOSS shows.
  • Writing articles and tutorials about openSUSE.
  • Creating posters, promotional materials about openSUSE.
  • Helping Hands events. (More to come.)
  • Updating / monitoring information sites (like Wikipedia) and making sure the most up-to-date and accurate information is available on those sites.
  • Launch Parties! Launch parties are usually organized by openSUSE Ambassadors, part of the marketing team.

Meetings

The openSUSE Marketing team invites everyone interested to join the #opensuse-marketing channel for marketing related discussions, and to work with the openSUSE Project community.

The openSUSE Marketing team will hold meetings every two weeks. The meetings are open to everyone. The agenda is published on the opensuse-marketing mailing list prior to the meeting, and may also be found here prior to the meeting. Feel free to suggest topics, or bring up items for discussion during the meeting, if time allows.

Resources

In this section, you'll find presentation decks you can use to talk about openSUSE at Linux User Groups, community shows, and other events where people might be interested in learning about Linux and openSUSE.

We also have templates that can be used for announcements, a list of news sites and journalists that might be interested in news about openSUSE and work being done by the openSUSE Project.

openSUSE 11.2 Marketing

The openSUSE Marketing Team should be instrumental in helping to drive awareness of the openSUSE 11.2 launch and subsequent publicity of the openSUSE 11.2 release.

Remember: promotion doesn't end with the release of openSUSE 11.2, it continues through the life of the release.

We need marketing team members to help with:

  • Spreading the news to local press and blogs.
  • Create content about use of 11.2 features, applications, and so forth.
  • Help distribute 11.2 when it's released.
  • Speak at LUGs and other local groups to spread the word about openSUSE 11.2, and Linux in general.

We'll keep talking points and collateral here: openSUSE 11.2 Marketing Materials
