openSUSE Maintenance Team

openSUSE 11.2 is the first release of openSUSE which is coordinated by the openSUSE Maintenance team.

How to request an Update for 11.2?

In general, Updates are reviewed and approved by the Maintenance Team. To ask for an update, the process is:

  • file a bugreport at https://bugzilla.novell.com/ if it does not exist already
  • make sure the bugreport is assigned to the person who drives the update (the package maintainer, in general)
  • set the bugreport to NEEDINFO maintenance@opensuse.org.
  • The Maintenance Team will review the list of open requests if it is according to the openSUSE Update policy and then approve the request by handing out a SWAMPID.
  • The updated package should then be submitrequested against openSUSE:11.2:Update:Test
  • A patchinfo should be submitted as well. With very recent versions of osc, osc patchinfo will help you in creating this patchinfo. As this process is not yet very smooth, you can alternatively submit the information about the update in the bugzilla report as a comment. The requested information is:
    • SUMMARY: A one line description of the major fix in this update
    • DESCRIPTION: The multiline, detailed description of the changes in the update
    • PACKAGE: List of packages that should be released as an update (if you mention a package name that matches the main package name, then all subpackages are included automatically).

How to contact the Maintenance team?

The Maintenance team can be reached by sending an email to maintenance@opensuse.org.

How can I help the Maintenance team?

You can help e.g. in:

  • notify interesting bugs that should be fixed by a maintenance update
  • work as a QA tester and check testing updates to improve the quality and give feedback
  • help us to create a new maintenance policy
  • work in the maintenance council
  • work as a package maintainer and provide the updates
  • work as a junior maintainer and learn to build packages and provide minor fixes
  • ...

For questions, update request, feedback you can use the mailing list of the maintenance team (maintenance@opensuse.org).

How can I see more information about the updates?

There are pages in the Build Service Webinterface that shows the current progress of updates. Any update can be in one of the following states:

  • NEW: The update has been started, but it has not been checked in yet, therefore the change is not yet in the openSUSE:11.2:Update:Test repository
  • QA: The update has been built and it has been added to the 11.2 Test Update repository: http://download.opensuse.org/update/11.2-test
  • RELEASED: The update has been released and is part of the official update channel.
