Mozilla
Mozilla owns a variety of applications, mostly thunderbird, Mozilla suite and Seamonkey, variation around the Gecko libraries. they are all multi-plateform (Linux, Windows, Mac...) and on Linux gtk1 or gtk2
Mozilla Thunderbird
Very famous client derived from founder Mozilla. It is quite fast even with big amount of mails. You can use it in every environment

Seamonkey
All in one application, managing integration between the browser and the mailer. strong point: mail and news reader, allow for many mail account, allow for multiple owner identity
Mulberry
Multi-platform pim program. Great support for IMAP. It is not integrated either with KDE nor with GNOME

KMail
KMail is the default mail client for KDE, it has good KDE integration using the KDE address book. It runs on other desktop environments, as long as package kdelibs3 is installed. Kontact is an application which combines KMail with KOrganizer, KAddressbook, KPhone, KPilot in one application to offer even more functionality than Outlook.

Evolution
Evolution is default GNOME mail client. It offer many features, but is little slow. It also offer functionality as MS Outlook do. Evolution is binded with GNOME (in openSUSE very deeply).

Opera
Opera is QT based multi-platform web browser with integrated mail client. Mail client offer many interesting and innovating features. Although it is QT based Opera have no deep bindings in KDE and could be used in all environments. Opera is not free software

Claws Mail (Was called Sylpheed Claws)
Claws Mail is an email client (and news reader), based on GTK+, featuring
