LILO (LInux LOader) is boot loader that was used long time before GRUB. It is dependable solution that lacks a lot of GRUB functionality, but for some distributions is still default. LILO can be used to boot many different operating systems, like DOS, Windows, OS/2 and the BSD variants.

Basic function of any boot loader is to boot (one of) operating system(s) installed on the computer.

SUSE default is GRUB, but LILO is offered as a alternative for people that are used to it.
