Klik

From openSUSE

klik aims to become the easiest way to download and run software, without a need for installing the applications into the system. To achieve that, klik creates self-contained "application images" which can run from anywhere (even from an USB thumbdrive or CD-RW), or be copied to a different Linux computer and used there.

What is klik?

klik aims to become the most simple way to let a user run and use Linux software, without even a need for "installing" the application.

klik "ingredients" are downloadable from the web and are converted into the respective self-contained package with a single click, even while running a Live-CD.

Because one software package is always exactly just one compressed cmg file, you can always delete software packages without any problems for other software. Because you can save cmg files everywhere, this solution is very flexible.

The klik homepage is located at http://klik.atekon.de/

Live DVD vs. installed openSUSE

This description covers the Live DVD of openSUSE. Of course, you can also use klik with openSUSE installed on your hard disk. In that case, however, it may be necessary that you run the script "~/klik-cmg-install-root" as root once in order to set up the entries in /etc/fstab that klik needs.

The klik store is automatically launched in a Konqueror window
