KDE/Meetings/Indexing
From openSUSE
[edit]
Prerequisites
Install the soprano-backend-sesame package and the -devel package for the java you are using.
We should test soprano-backend-virtuoso - this is the stated direction in the community. Do we have anything built yet? [FL1SK]

Observations
- Default 'index $HOME' takes forever if you have build trees in $HOME or other large collections of small files (wstephenson)
- 'index $HOME/Documents' by default makes sense to me (wstephenson)
- Notifications about starting/stopping indexing are annoying (wstephenson)
- nepomukservicestub seems to get hung up and eat CPU on some files (wstephenson)
- Once the initial index is done, performance is ok. Initial indexing on battery is annoying and should be suppressed (wstephenson)
- Lack of search UI is annoying (wstephenson)
- nepomuksearch:/hastag:<tag> is ok (wstephenson)
- nepomuksearch:/ default virtual folders have no hits (wstephenson)

Related bugs
- nepomuk's systray icon does not always show the correct state of the indexer If users watch the CPU usage of their processes and notice that some nepomuk process uses the CPU but the systray icon does not give an explanation on what, they ight think it is a bug. In any case, an informed user is less likely to get annoyed or file invalid bugs.
- nepomukservices process blocks dolphin This should be solved but needs testing. One variant of this can still be found in KDE 4.2, but is supposed to be fixed in KDE 4.3. size limit for previews is not applied to .pdf and probably other files
- improve handling of external media As users might put their photos, music etc. on external harddisks, e.g. when using a laptop or netbook, they will waste a lot of CPU with removing+re-adding those files to the index.
- dolphin hogs the CPU after moving files This is just annoying.
