snd-usb-audio
In general USB audio cards are managed by the standard snd-usb-audio module. During the card setup just select the quick installation if your card is supported by ALSA.

M-Audio Audiophile USB
For the audiophile USB card select the snd-usb-audio but enter in the advanced setup mode and insert/add a new parameter called "device_setup"
use device_setup = 0x09 for 24bits 48kHz mode with digital input disabled or use device_setup = 0x01 for 16bits 48kHz mode with digital input disabled
this solves the recording distortions.
in Jack simply select hw:x,0 for output and hw:x,1 for input, where x is the card id.
