HCL/Printers
From openSUSE
| General information on printing in openSUSE is currently (4 July 2007) spread in few articles where YaST Printer and SDB Printing articles are good start for openSUSE. It is also good to check Linux Printing for the latest in linux, that usually will become available in next openSUSE release currently under development. PIXMA MP210
USB, openSUSE 11.0.
Selected MP180 from the available drivers list and it seems to work perfectly. Did not test scanning.
PIXMA MP220
Selected MP180 from available printers and this worked OK as this is a multi function printer the scanner needs configuring separately. Though the Pixma SANE driver exists have not yet tried it.
PIXMA MP510
Selected "BJC-8200 Foomatic/bj8pa06n" from the list, printer works ok.
PIXMA MP760
Autodetected:

Need to change the printer name from "Canon iP3000" to "Canon PIXMA iP3000"
The following comments were from a previous post:
- I am using iP 3000 Canon printer with all of following drivers taken from the list:
- ( presently installed Opensuse 10.3, formerly Suse 10.0 and openSuse 10.2 with same results
- 1 BJC7000-Foomatic/bjc800
- 2 BJC7004-Foomatic/bjc800
- 3 BJC7100-Foomatic/bjc800, all offering free choice of papersupply,
- 4 BJC8200-Foomatic/bj8pa06
- Testprints and daily printwork are satisfactory.
- 2 features are missing:
- * indication of remaining colour level
- * reverse side printing
- Testing BJC 3000 showed prints that were out of scale.
- Sept.11.2008: I added Modell Pixma iP 3000 from the list.
- Result: Correct size,correct scale and reverseside ( duplex )printing is now possible.
- Same results after having installed open Suse 11.0. and on openSUSE 11.1.kde3.5.10
- (For openSUSE 11.1.:when installing with Yast the driverlist will appear only when entering just <Canon> instead of taking the autodetected printerversion)
PIXMA iP4200
Autodetected:
, USB port, Working with Canon's Filters
for 32 bit: pdc_2: recommend you go here
http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/P/search?model=PIXMA+iP4200&menu=download&filter=0&ca_os=Linux
and firstly download Canon Inkjet Print Filter Ver. 2.60 for Linux (Operation guide)[Explanation of the iP4200 operation (html file). Download as tar.gz to your desktop; right-click; open with file roller; select extract from file roller; a new folder on your desktop should be created; open that folder; open the next folder (ip4200; look in menu folder; select "guide_conte.htm" and it will open in your web browser; read the instuctions; (several times); follow them exactly;
then download the rpm Common package and the rpm Package for iP4200; the instructions will tell you to install the common first, and then the ip4200 package;
PIXMA iP4200 == 64 bit
- try Gutenprint or the Canon drivers; (Canon as detailed above);
see here http://forums.opensuse.org/hardware/411351-ip4200-im-stuck.html
for more guidance; (you will need to make a symbolic link from the 64bit libraries to the 32bit libraries)log in as root: the # at the beginning signifies root log in # ln -s /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstocanonij /usr/lib64/cups/filter
montfinal edited his ppd file: if you use the above symbolic link, that should work
Alternatively, to get the 32-bit drivers to work on an x86_64 OS, do the following:
- 1) Load 32-bit RPMs for: popt, gdk, gtk, gtk-devel, libxml, libpng, libglib, libgmodule
- 2) Load i586 RPM: libpng3
- 3) Add a link BEFORE installing printer drivers. The install will create directories /usr/lib/cups/backend, driver and filter
ln -s /usr/lib64/cups /usr/lib/cups
- 4) Install printer drivers (versions may be different) NOTE: libxml dependencies will be met by the 64-bit libxml libraries
rpm -i --nodeps cnijfilter-common-2.60-3.i386.rpm rpm -i --nodeps cnijfilter-ip4200-2.60-4.i386.rpm
- 5) /etc/init.d/cups restart
- 6) Use "Yast- Hardware- Printer" to add your printer
- 7) Use "Yast- Hardware- Printer- Edit- All Options..." to set "papersize=letter"
P.S. For diagnostics, set "loglevel debug" in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf, restart cups, "tail -f /var/log/cups/error_log", and print

Canon LBP series
for a 32 bit OpenSuse install
the printer drivers WILL work; if you follow the Canon instructions;
http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0031118.asp
but firstly install the howto guide; guide-capt-1.8xE.tar.gz from the above page; I suggest downloading to your desktop; open with file roller, and then extract from the file roller menu to your desktop; that creates a new folder, called guide-capt-1.8 and inside that click on manual_contents.html and an excellent howto opens up in your web browser; read it several times;
then follow the instructions; item 5 talks of "Register the printer (PPD) with the print spooler." You need to know the name of the ppd file; use gnome search or the KDE equivalent; some end in J, others K; identify yours; likely to be in /usr/share/cups/model; eg for LBP5000 it will be CNCUPSLBP5000CAPTK.ppd
continue to follow the instructions; Canon say in item 7 "Start ccpd daemon.Enter the following command. # /etc/init.d/ccpd start" this gives it for this use of the printer
and very importantly: Note:* It would be convenient to set ccpd daemon to start automatically when Linux starts up. You do this manually each time by typing in the above command, or for automatic, have suse insert the service
cd /etc/init.d
sudo insserv -v ccpd
FOR 64BIT SUSE
(for Canon LBP series)
oldcraft gives an excellent howto in post #6; http://forums.opensuse.org/hardware/410015-canon-lbb5100-capt-driver-x86_64-a.html
he describes how to use source files, so the 64 bit system works;

Stylus Colour C44UX
Printer works fully. Is fast. Has some problems with PDF files opened via Adove Reader version 8. My printer is installed via a network share, provided by a Buffalo NAS drive. No utilities for monitoring ink levels, cleaning printer heads or performing a nozzle check.
Stylus Color C62
Default printing is slower than default printing in Windows, but it can be changed using YaST Printer or dialog Properties from Print menu item in every application. This is probably valid for all other Epson printers in Stylus Color series. For maintenance, like query ink levels, can be used escputil that is included in distribution. For more information type escputil --help.

Stylus DX4400
Although there are official drivers out for it, see [1] they do not work. You can get the print function working through the use of the DX3850 drivers but be warned it's behaviour is strange. Often it will shut itself down when it's prompted to print and then start the printing when turned on again. I doubt the ink level warnings are working properly so it might damage the printheads if you keep printing with a low ink level. Scanner does not work at all.
Stylus DX4450

Unfortunately yast doesn't find a driver for the printer. (see details below) The trick is to
- get the ppd-file for the printer from http://www.linuxprinting.org
- start the web interface to cups: http://localhost:631/
- install the printer using "Manage Printers"
- if asked for the printer name, use the ppd file (loaded with the button - cups only listed the newer FS1030D model)
Details for yast: The printer is detected, but no driver found.
Trying to install PPD from vendor CD: PPD seems to be parsed and accepted, but yast still complains about missing driver.
Lexmark
E120
It does not work with its own driver, but works just fine with "Optra E" one.
E220
Works:
Requires manual driver setup.
There is no Linux driver for that printer model, but experimentation shows, that it work great with "Optra E+" drivers.
P1500
Plugged it in and it autodetected. This Lexmark is branded as a DELL P1500. The correct driver was installed.
T520
Works:
YaST2 Printer finds it on the LAN, will print as "Optra E".
For optimal printing, extract the Windows PostScript driver for the .PPD file. In YaST2 printer setup it gives an error, but if you setup at http://localhost:631 it will work. Duplexer, Envelopes & 1200 DPI work fine. For envelopes in OpenOffice define page setup and printer setup for #10 envelope, MP feeder source & feed envelope as indicated on printer.
X6150
Works:
I tried different drivers but never able to do any print.
X73
Z602
SUSE Linux doesn´t provide a driver for the Lexmark Z602 - however, there´s a [RedHat Linux 9.0 driver]
Installation Procedure (SUSE Linux 10.0, SUSE Linux 10.1)
> wget http://www.downloaddelivery.com/srfilecache/CJLZ600LE-CUPS-1.0-1.TAR.gz > tar -xvf ./CJLZ600LE-CUPS-1.0-1.TAR.gz > chmod 755 ./z600cups-1.0-1.gz.sh > ./z600cups-1.0-1.gz.sh -keep 2>/dev/null > cd installer > su > rpm --install ./z600cups-1.0-1.i386.rpm --nodeps > rpm --install ./z600llpddk-2.0-1.i386.rpm --nodeps > rpm --erase z600llpddk --justdb > rpm --erase z600cups --justdb
Now you can use YaST to configure your Z602 (LEXMARK > Z600 Color Jetprinter)
Z615
Works using the 'Lexmark Drivers' one-click-install from the packman repository, and can be configured in YaST.

CLP-550N
works well by copying the clp550n.ppd file to /usr/share/cups/model/samsung and setup as new usb or network conected printer with yast. (the 192.168.1.xxx address can be obtained from the printer menu).
CLP-610ND
the samsung CD setup works but dosn't always find the networked printer (autosetup with USB connection not checked). if the auto setup finishes but fails to find the network address, it can be fixed by editing the printer with yast or by setting up as a new printer with yast and using the CLP-610splc.ppd file from the CD.
CLX-2160
It works in OpenSuse 10.2 and 10.3 with Samsung Unified Driver 2.00.97. In OpenSuse 10.3 you MUST mount usbfs. In OpenSuse 11.0 edit a line for usbfs in fstab and mount it in a console or by a shell script

Works with openSUSE 10.2 out of box.
Also works on openSUSE11.0 and 11.1 after loading Xerox supplied ppd. (using on lastest 10.3 also)
Phaser 3117
Detected, but doesn't work with the default PPD. Select Samsung ML-1710's PPD. (Not the one listed as "GDI", but the other, "1.0"). With that driver, it works perfectly.
