Compaq Presario C700 openSUSE 10.3 (i386 & x86_64) Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png I had to change the Atheros AR5006EG WiFi card with an Intel 3945ABG for a wireless network access, because the MadWiFi drivers didn't worked. The webcam led remains on all the time, got to search for an Syntek USB integrated webcam drivers (the webcam works well on Mandriva 2008.1 RC2 64bit). Otherways is a perfect machine to run xen, VirtualBox or VMware and for the daily basis work.
Compaq Armada M700 10.0 OSS Release (i386) Image:22px-Tick.png, no 3D out-of-box. Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png, with USB DLink DBT-122 stick Image:22px-Tick.png A bug prevented installation of versions before 10.3 with m700 systems using 20 GB hard drives, but has been fixed for SUSE 11. Systems using ATI Rage Mobility Pro will experience split-screen issues, and ATI no longer updates drivers for this product.
Compaq evo N610c 10.0 OSS Release (i386) Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Suspend to RAM not working, but suspend to disk OK. Be aware that this laptop runs extremely hot. Under load the CPU will get close to 90C even with all fans enabled.
Compaq Evo N800v 10.3 OSS Release (i586) Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Suspend to RAM not working, but suspend to disk OK. Be aware that this laptop runs extremely hot. Tried different settings for energy consumption in PowerManagement, but it didn´t change anything. The driver for the ATI video card isn't available, video will work but no compiz fusion or effects
Compaq nx6110 10.0 OSS Release (i386) Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png perfect out of the box. everything for the newbe is ready and working.
Compaq nx6125 10.1 x86_64 Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Wireless (Broadcom 43xx series) requires ndiswrapper or reverse-engineered driver: http://bcm43xx.berlios.de/ . Powermanagement/ACPI works mostly but sleeping or restarting freezes the machine. Shortcutkeys (sound volume/brightness control etc.) do not work.
Compaq V6000 10.2 OSS Release x86 Image:22px-Tick.png, Use nvidia installer Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png, with unsupported ndiswrapper Image:22px-Tick.png Wireless works with ndiswrapper. Powermanagement/ACPI suspend to RAM does not work. Some shortcutkeys works (lock, brightness, suspend).
Compaq Presario R3200 CTO 10.0 RC1(x86_64) Image:22px-Tick.png, but suggested to use the nVidia Driver Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png, with ndiswrapper (unsupported) could be better This is an overall good notebook, and an overall great distro, I would like to see broadcom, the manufacturer of the wireless adapter, to become more involved with the OSS community to create a native driver.
Compaq Presario R3470US 10.2 (i386) & (x86_64) Image:22px-Tick.png, but suggest the nVidia Driver Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png, need to extract firmware from original windows driver via bcm43xx-fwcutter Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png, ALPS Touchpad needs minor adjustment Good notebook and great distro! Needed to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf to make to make the touchpad less problematic. Edit options in the section "InputDevice", where the driver is "synaptics", change options to "MaxTapMove" "0", "MaxTapTime" "0", "HorizScrollDelta" "0", Note: There are no GUI apps available for making these touchpad adjustments.
Compaq Presario R4000 10.0 OSS Release (x86_64) Image:22px-Tick.png, no 3D yet. Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png, with ndiswrapper (unsupported) Image:22px-Tick.png Runs brilliantly apart from 3D ATi graphics do not currently work with the 200M chipset at all. Also, as with the R3200 above, Broadcom needs work with the OSS community.
Compaq Presario R5000 10.1 OSS Release (x86_64) Image:22px-Tick.png, haven't checked 3D yet. Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png, with ndiswrapper (unsupported) Image:22px-Tick.png Had some issues getting the wireless running.
Compaq Presario V2000 10.0 OSS Release (x_86_64) Image:22px-Tick.png No 3D Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Everything works well excepct for the 9 in 1 card reader with FireWire port. Extremely effiecient, and the laptop stays cooler running SuSE Linux, than running MS Windows. Battery life is about the same amount of time too.
Compaq Presario V4000EA 10.2 (x86) DVD Edition Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Almost perfect. 3D Desktop effects work out of the box. Suspend and hibernate required "-f -a 3" being added to S2RAM_OPTS in /etc/pm/config. Suspend and hibernate are super-fast. Laptop tends to get hotter than windows did although the fan kicks in. This has never resulted in a crash however, but does have a detrimental effect on battery life. Battery life is 1.5 to 2 hours. On windows it was ~2.25 hours. Wireless, sound ethernet video all work perfectly! :-D
Compaq Presario V5120NR 10.1 (x86_64) OSS + some non-OSS Image:22px-Tick.png Can't get 3D Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png (bcm4318) via ndiswrapper Image:22px-Tick.png Very good overall. Compiling latest ndiswrapper (1.23) helped wireless a lot, works with WPA. Need a good guide on ATI 3D. Power management good, but suspends glitchy (still testing).
Compaq Presario 1500 10.1 OSS Release (x86) Image:22px-Tick.png 3D Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png
Compaq Presario 1925 10.1 OSS Release (x86) Still in the process of installing, testing, and reporting.
Compaq Presario 2547ai 10.0 (x86) Image:22px-Tick.png 3D acc not supported yet Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png, via ndiswrapper Image:22px-Tick.png all in all suse 10.0 works without major glitches on the machine. Suspend to ram, and Suspend to disk do not work. Also, suse 10.1 does not install on the machine , the kernel freezes during installation even with acpi settings disabled.
Compaq V2410 10.0 OSS (i386), 10.1 OSS (x86_64) Image:22px-Tick.png 3D Mesa OpenGL Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png via ndiswrapper bcmwl5 Image:22px-Tick.png SaX2 supports laptop's 1280x768 via ATI Xpress 200M out of the box, 3d via Mesa OpenGL. Newest ATI driver (as of 05/07/2006) works with 200M (tested on 10.0 - i386 only). SuSE 10.1 has better auto-mount support for external USB devices. SuSE 10.0 works, just has to be browsed through media rather than auto-detect pop-ups.
Compaq V3000Z 10.1 OSS (x86 Live DVD) Image:22px-Tick.png 3D Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png PowerNOW!Image:22px-Tick.pngSuspend Overall works well. However, even though the sound works, it is impossible to adjust volume, or to mute.Wireless will work but you have to use ndiswrapper with the driver it has installed on w#$dow$."Copy .inf & .sys files"
Compaq Pressario V3033AU 10.2 DVD Image:22px-Tick.png 3D Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png works well overall, trying 3d with xgi compiz
Compaq V6302eu 10.2 OSS (i386) Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Works like a charm. nvidia by installing linux-driver from nvidia.com, wireless by installing ndiswrapper, sound by update to latest alsa
Compaq V2401CL 10.2 OSS (x86 Live DVD) Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png See remarks Image:22px-Tick.png Had issues with installing wireless because device seemed to already be installed. When using ndiswrapper, if wireless device is already installed in Yast, edit it and change the module under hardware to ndiswrapper from bcm42xx. Don't forget to type noapic in the boot options after rebooting. Sound controls do not work, due to no drivers, but sound works!"
Compaq Presario X1000 10.2 DVD Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Have tested every release from 9.1 to 10.2 on this machine. A few issues with 9.3 (shutting down actually caused a restart), but 10+ is great, even detecting the 1280x800 resolution. No luck with 3D graphics, though.
Compaq 2405CA 10.0 OSS Image:22px-Tick.png 3D Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Need ndiswrapper Image:22px-Tick.png Had to install ndiswrapper to get wireless to work (http://ndiswrapper.sf.net)
Compaq 6710s 10.2 DVD Image:22px-Tick.png no 3D using VESA Driver Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 (i965GM Express) 800x600 as maximum resolution :( Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png not detected while install Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Whireless and Bluetooth have not tested. Modem, Ethernet and Video not detected while install goes. But Ethernet and Modem I'll check manually. Special Function Keys don't work except hardware handled ones (Brightness).
Compaq 6710s 10.3 DVD Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Whireless and Bluetooth have not tested.
Compaq 6720 10.3 DVD Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png On openSUSE-10.3 the wireless failed to function with iwlwifi driver, but functioned well with ipw3945 driver and wifi-radar (not with knetworkmanager).
Compaq Presario V5245eu 10.2 DVD Image:22px-Tick.png 3D with ATI Driver Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Need ndiswrapper Image:22px-Tick.png Had to install ndiswrapper to get wireless to work. Special Function Keys don't work except hardware handled ones (Brightness). Sound Keys work with Compaq Laptop Keyboard type.
Compaq Presario C302NR 10.3 DVD Image:22px-Tick.png, No 3D Out-Of-Box Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png BCMWL5.SYS & BCMWL5.INF installed with ndiswrapper Image:22px-Tick.png Used YaST to install Ndiswrapper. Follow these instructions: http://en.opensuse.org/Ndiswrapper . NOTE: I used BCMWL5.SYS & BCMWL5.INF from my machine rather than the internet downloads. Internet downloads didn't work for me. Sounds works fine. Hint: During the confirmation near the end of the install do not change any video settings. If you do, you run the risk of getting a fuzzy looking display. If this happens, re-install and use the default setting openSUSE picked.
Compaq Presario F700 10.3 CD (x86_64) Image:22px-Tick.png, 3D with nvidia 1-click-install. Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png, with ndiswrapper (bcmwl5.inf & bcmwl5.sys from xp partition) Image:22px-Tick.png Works really fine, haven't tested suspend to disk and suspend to ram.
Compaq Presario F700 - F730US 11 DVD (x86_64) Image:22px-Tick.png, 3D with nvidia 1-click-install. Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png, with ndiswrapper (bcmwl5.inf & bcmwl5.sys from xp partition) Image:22px-Tick.png Works really fine, haven't tested suspend to disk and suspend to ram.
Compaq Presario V6650ED 10.3 DVD 32bit Image:22px-Tick.png3D not tested Image:22px-Tick.pngAfter updating alsa apps Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png, suspend doesn't work HP Remote Control works partially. Intel 3945ABG wireless works out of the box, without any configuring. Volume and mute buttons work out of the box too. Card Readers also works 100%!!!
Compaq nw9440 10.3 DVD 64-bit Image:22px-Tick.png, 3D with NVidia 1-click-install Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png, although buggy; must change kernel module on wireless card to ipw3945 instead of iwl3945 untested Image:22px-Tick.png, haven't tested suspend Function keys are buggy : dimming controls don't work, presentation mode works sometimes, calculator button doesn't work; information button does bring up YELP Has some drive-you-crazy bits like buggy wireless and function keys, but overall outstanding support for Linux and easy to get going
Compaq Presario V6340EU 11.0 network install 64-bit Image:22px-Tick.png didn't install KDE with highest resolution - installing the driver from NVidia with a new kernel fixed that, 3D not tested Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png Image:22px-Tick.png, doesn't work out of the box - installed the firmware using the suse program and compiled a new kernel - didn't try ndiswrapper - had to disable encryption from my Belkin router untested untested Volume and mute keys I can only get to work when in the mixer window on KDE (after making a .Xmodmap file as instructed from a web page) - not sure if I can get them recognised in other applications Overall not bad, but still beyond granny installing it herself. Either you need to be able to buy OpenSuse laptops from major chains, or it needs to work out of the box especially wireless. The LAN connection to my router made life a bit easier though.
Legend:Image:22px-Tick.png Works to some extent Does not work Not Tested Not Applicable
