iBook G3
The iBook G3 has no Wireless or Bluetooth hardware built-in. A Wireless card is available as an add-on hence untested.
[edit]
iBook G3 10.0
- Power Management
- If closed at runtime, it enters into sleep mode. However waking up does not work (e.g. keyboard does not respond). It answers pings, but does not accept ssh connections.
[edit]
iBook G3 10.2
- Power Management
- Serious issues. For example, closing the lid while the GDM login screen is displayed, crashes the system with sig 11. See https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=226081, https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=226427, and https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=222045
Workaround: Uninstall thepowersavepackage.
[edit]
iBook G3 10.3
- Power Management
- Serious issues. See https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=305154
- ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/kernel/kotd/HEAD/ppc/kernel-default.rpm as of 2008-01-09 seems to fix this bug.

Macbook
[edit]
10.3
- Sound
- Works out of the box.
- iSight
- Works out of the box. "uvcvideo" kernel driver included in openSUSE.
- Graphics
- XGL & Compiz Desktop Effects work very fast (compared to 10.2) with bundled compiz 0.5.4.
- Backlight
- Works out of the box.
- Power Management
- Everything works (lid, battery, etc.). Suspend to ram works (even with Desktop Effects) but only if the X server started correctly on the first try at boot. If you got a "gdm was unable to start your X server, retry" text screen, suspend to ram fails due to issues in the "intel" graphics driver.
- Add "ath_pci" to /etc/pm/config in SUSPEND_MODULES to make wifi work after suspend to ram.
- Sensors
- Works out of the box. However, new kernel has an improved applesmc driver for non-Pro Macbooks.
- Bootloader
- GRUB or LILO can be installed only AFTER the installation as the MBR partition table gets "cleared" during setup. refit's gptsync tool then booting into the installed system helped.
- Bluetooth
- Works out of the box.
- IR Remote
- Works out of the box. lirc now suppports it using the "macmini" driver.
- Input (Touchpad/Keyboard)
- Works out of the box. Use the synaptics driver for the mouse to have two-finger scrolling and two-finger right click like in Mac OS.
