GNOME Updater Applet/Update Process on the Desktop/Automatic Updates

Automatic updates are desirable for many users, we can't however make them the default for several reasons:

• Also many users don't like this behavior
• There might be cases, when an update is undesirable, e.g. with expensive internet connections
• No notification at all is also not good, because what if this system has to be shut down immediately?

What options could we offer?

• Automatic downloads
• Automatic installation
  • Still a notification before update, if this update would involve a restart.
