GNOME/Slab

From openSUSE

The GNOME Main Menu

When you install openSUSE/GNOME, you will notice that the menu is not the same as on other Linux distributions. We ship it with the GNOME Main Menu, also referred to as; Slab, g-m-m and "The new GNOME menu". As part of Slab, there's also an Application Browser (ab for short).

Here is a screenshot of Slab;

Explanation of the different elements;

1. Search

  • If you type something in here and press enter, it will search your computer for any email, documents, websites etc that is related.
  • Note: This is not visible if you customized your installation to not include beagle.

2. Applications

  • This lists your favorite applications
  • Note: If there is an application in here that you don't consider a favorite, you can right click on it and select "Remove from Favorites"
  • You can also right click on any application and select "Add to Startup Programs". By doing so, it will automatically start that application the next time you login.
  • If you previsouly added an application to "Startup Programs" and no longer wants it to start automatically, right click on that application and select "Remove from Startup Applications"

3. Recent Applications

  • This will list applications that you have run, but that is not in your Favorite list.
  • Note: You can right click on a Recent Application and select "Add to Favorites" if you frequently use it.

4. More Applications...
