At the moment, we install xchat-gnome by default.

• Think we should probably prefer xchat or pidgin as our irc client - jpr.
• I agree about xchat. Please don't replace with pidgin though. -captain_magnus
• Let's be provocative: do we really need an IRC client in the default install? Do most users need this? - vuntz
• Our online help have a "Connect to #opensuse", hence we *require* an IRC client. Pidgin (in my opinion) is not preferred. -captain_magnus
• In the view of perhaps giving up some space for other packages, I'm ok with pidgin. Reason being that most users, at least in the beginning, probably will only connect to IRC a few times when they have problems. If they like to hang out on IRC, they can be asked to install xchat. So... As long as we don't drop xchat from the distro, I'm fine with not having it installed.
• Since Pidgin is already included by default and it is a perfectly good IRC chat, I see no reason why Xchat should replace it. -Kevin Dupuy
