Factory testing

Started at --> 00 captain_magnus: Hmm... It's my 4am now and I'm here... Where is the dedication from the provo people? :-) ** sreeves misread - I thought back one hour from normal sreeves: dudh jpr: sreeves, mw, hpj ? hpj: hmmm sreeves: so I just have questions about the upgrade this week hpj: wouldn't that put it at 5am here? sreeves: tried the update last night and still got the CC problem hpj: nm sreeves: jpr: will that be synced soon rodrigo: sreeves: the dep on libgnomekbd? sreeves: and is there a way to check status of a factory sync sreeves: rodrigo: yes captain_magnus: sreeves: There's no easy way to check factory sync... jpr: darix: ^^ > hpj: i'm actually a little behind on my factory updates jpr: its been a couple days since there were updates on x86_64 at least jpr: if darix doesn't respond soon i'll take and AI to check with the autobuild team and mail the list hpj: how are the dependency problems coming? jpr: the zypper at least lets you work around the problems these days hpj: banshee et al jpr: banshee and CC2 are fixed internall hpj: ok jpr: hpj, mw, sreeves : anything else to add? sreeves: nope rodrigo: can I just ask who is running factory now? hpj: no captain_magnus: I am running it on my laptop jpr: me hpj: mde hpj: me jpr: (one machine) jpr: also, just a reminder http://en.opensuse.org/GNOME/11.0/Testing rodrigo: that makes 5 machines (captain, jpr, hpj, and 2 from me), so we really need more people to test stuff jpr: for all those lurkers like ChrisJaeger bgerber hircus ivanz pocek Juippis etc :-) rodrigo: :) hpj: ideally, testers would run GNOME, of course... :) ChrisJaeger: :-D Running it on a laptop, everythings's fine. hircus: :) I don't have an openSUSE machine at the moment, I'm afraid. disk space limitations ivanz: once I buy more RAM I will install factory for testing jpr: AI: jpr check autobuild sync status jpr: ok

Task Review

Started at --> 00 jpr: suseROCKs appears to be out atm rodrigo: he said he was going to miss the meeting jpr: so quickly, anyone have anything they want bring up task wise? jpr: I have finally gotten the tshirt/swag stuff moving again jpr: will wait one more day for snail mail addresses from a couple of people jpr: and send to Martin L. btimothy: i've contacted the BYU CS Dept. abt. hosting an event/speaking there to promote openSUSE/GNOME and get student participants. Waiting now for the real person in charge to talk w/ me. rodrigo: I'd like some help on the kiwi/distro testing thing captain_magnus: rodrigo: I can help out... rodrigo: there are kiwi images done from factory, but nothing planned for testing rodrigo: captain_magnus: good jpr: and the pattern review will happen within a couple of weeks after we review the drops and such on the mailing list rodrigo: we need to think how we could do automated tests, ltsp? jpr: rodrigo: ah yes, we have space issues and i told coolo we would look at them jpr: rodrigo: if you get it building perhaps we can review that pattern first? jpr: nagappan: ^^ nagappan: hi jpr rodrigo: captain_magnus: add yourself to the task then please jpr: nagappan: see above ltsp question :-) captain_magnus: rodrigo: Will do... Have you done anything with it yet? jpr: mw: you'll talk to dirk about the next packaging day? rodrigo: captain_magnus: no :( captain_magnus: rodrigo: Ok... I'll set something up here and then create a wiki page... Should be able to do that over the weekend ** jpr notes the multimedia themed meeting is done rodrigo: captain_magnus: great jpr: anything else to raise on tasks? bgerber: ok nagappan: jpr, LTSP or LDTP ? I could see rodrigo kiwi image captain_magnus: nagappan: LDTP jpr: ldtp i think he meant rodrigo: yeah nagappan: captain_magnus, I could not trace it out, could you please paste for me ? captain_magnus: nagappan: We were discussing possibilities to automate GNOME testing with ldtp

Q&A - Non Developer

Started at --> 00 jpr: questions? nagappan: captain_magnus, ah ! cool jpr: again - lurkers like ChrisJaeger bgerber hircus ivanz pocek Juippis this is your time to ask those burning gnome/opensuse questions! jpr: including exciting 11.0 questions mw: ok nagappan: jpr, captain_magnus, I can help in all possible ways in setting up the environment for automated testing ivanz: I've got no questions :) rodrigo: nagappan, captain_magnus: good, let's continue talking after the meeting captain_magnus: Any news on public fate? nagappan: rodrigo, sure :) jpr: captain_magnus: i have seen no change in status jpr: but thats a good one to take to the project meeting or ask AJ about jpr: AI: jpr find out the status of openfate jpr: any other questions today?

Next Theme Meeting

Started at --> 00 ** jpr inserts a topic jpr: next theme meeting? jpr: multimedia went really well rodrigo: yeah rodrigo: there was a list of suggested topics... /me looks rodrigo: opensync, multiscreen, and wishlist are the ones left rodrigo: http://en.opensuse.org/GNOME/Meetings/Themes jpr: we already had the mobile team jpr: a couple of times jpr: i wonder what other teams we could have come jpr: yast? rodrigo: X and yast jpr: X on radeonhd? jpr: kernel? rodrigo: a11y also rodrigo: although not sure who to bring :-) jpr: other ideas? jpr: +1 for X (like to here about xrandr 1.3 and hotplugging monitors and such too) captain_magnus: federico1's sleep pattern? hpj: build service? hpj: zypper? jpr: ooh jpr: both good as well ** rodrigo adds them to the themes page federico1: captain_magnus: pattern!? babies seem to be totally non-deterministic nagappan: federico1, :) captain_magnus: federico1: Heh... Congratulations :-) hpj: i would expect federico1's baby to be NP complete jpr: any votes for the next particular meeting? captain_magnus: +1 for X and randr... dliang: +1 for a11y sreeves: +1 for build service hpj: +1 for build service rodrigo: +1 for build service captain_magnus: -1 for build service :-) hpj: i'm fine with X too rodrigo: yeah, +1 for X also :) jpr: ok X next jpr: then build service jpr: AI: jpr to ask henne and the X team to attend

10.3 Update

Started at --> 00 cyberorg: there were recent improvement in compiz and xgl "Better RANDR support" from david's changelog jpr: sreeves: go man go sreeves: so we are pushing the updates from testing repo out sreeves: except the metacity fix sreeves: should be available from the update channel as soon as they work through the release process sreeves: were a little worried about the lack of testing on the metacity fix captain_magnus: What does it fix? sreeves: since it was added later on and we did not get many comments on it - and it changes desktop behavior slighty jpr: sreeves: did we receive a swamp id ? sreeves: jpr: yes jpr: great jpr: mw: which reminds me, did we get the id for the xulrunner update ? sreeves: so if a couple people could test out the metacity fix and comment on the bug that would be helpful hpj: is there awareness of the X crashing in VMWare bug? hpj: which popped up in 10.3 after previous updates sreeves: captain_magnus: it's a focus stealing prevention fix hpj: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=350318 bugbot: openSUSE bug 350318 in openSUSE 10.3 (GNOME) "GDM/X crashes in VMWare" [Major,New] bgerber: no questions here sreeves: hpj: btimothy just hit it this morning - I told him to add his vote to that bug to back rev the workaround to 10.3 sreeves: hpj: was there any action on the upstream real fix for that ? hpj: ok hpj: yeah, disable RENDER. :( hpj: for the vmware driver hpj: oh the real fix jpr: hpj: can we make it clear in there is not related to the control center but rather an X bug? hpj: no hpj: it's been quiet upstream hpj: jpr: yeah, i just got confirmation that it is indeed the X bug today jpr: ok jpr: we also have an FF crashing on update bug jpr: we need to look at jpr: started with the new version jpr: maybe related to the icon theme stuff jpr: maybe federico1 you can poke that next week with mw jpr: sreeves: anything else? sreeves: thats it jpr: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=355402 jpr: federico1: ^^ bugbot: openSUSE bug 355402 in openSUSE 10.3 (GNOME) "SuSEconfig.gtk2 kills processes" [Major,New] federico1: looking jpr: sreeves: i think that might fall into the embarassing bucket :-) jpr: although i think it only started for me after the recent FF update

11.0 Development Update

Started at --> 00 jpr: hpj: go man go hpj: ok, so we held back the GDM update for another week hpj: that is, until the end of this week hpj: since it was missing critical functionality hpj: i'm going to try again tomorrow or monday federico1: jpr: hmm, weird - just asked for more info jpr: federico1: i can replicate, try it hpj: they just sent out and update to the GDM upstream list saying they implemented reboot/shutdown :) hpj: and XDMCP hpj: so it's in better shape jpr: right, all policykit-ized nicely now though federico1: jpr: plain 10.3? hpj: although you still can't choose language and keyboard jpr: federico1: 10.3+updates at least - after the meeting please federico1: k hpj: probably not session type either captain_magnus: Is it possible to disable the animation thing when you click on your username? hpj: captain_magnus: you can bet i'm disabling that hpj: captain_magnus: i've talked to them upstream and they seem to like it :/ hpj: captain_magnus: so it'll be an openSUSE patch captain_magnus: Thanks! :-) hpj: anyone else have 11.0 dev movement to report? jpr: i have published a listed of some potential package drops on the mailing list jpr: please review hpj: that list looked fine to me hpj: although i think gqview is fairly popular jpr: yah jpr: two comments back jpr: hpj: the a11y stuff looked sensible as well? hpj: jpr: i think so jpr: hpj, sreeves : oh, what about the new xgl setup stuff jpr: since cyberorg is here hpj: not much to report there yet jpr: ok jpr: cyberorg: its on our minds again finally :-)

Patch Upstreaming

Started at --> 00 jpr: rodrigo: you're up cyberorg: jpr, cool :) rodrigo: not much to report, since we postponed it because of the 2.21.5 update in FACTORY rodrigo: so next Monday and Tuesday, we'll do it rodrigo: I'll add more information to the wiki page before then rodrigo: but with the update to 2.21.x, we had to disable some patches rodrigo: so anyone can help in reviewing those patches and reworking them as needed rodrigo: so, who wants to give a try at patch reviewing/tagging/upstreaming? rodrigo: oh, tagging is also very easy to do jpr: if you can simply help filing bugs and patches upstream that would be a big help too :-) rodrigo: so anyone can do it, no need to be the maintainer of the packages rodrigo: : we have 100s of patches, so any help would be really appreciated rodrigo: with t-shirts and swags sent from JP :) captain_magnus: Oh, I'm in then :-) jpr: hah jpr: i will definitely send if it helps

Q&A

Started at --> 00 jpr: any final questions? rodrigo: captain_magnus: ok, be here soon on Monday (well, late for you, soon for me :-) captain_magnus: rodrigo: I'll try... :-) jpr: guess not :-) jpr: thanks all! Meeting ended at --> 00
