Testers Needed

You don't have to be a coder to be a part of the team getting ready for openSUSE 11.0. We need folks like you to test out some of the cool new software that has been packaged for testing and functionality.

Note that while enhancement requests are always appreciated, this is not the place for it. We just want to make sure nothing is actually broken.

Testers

The following packages are for inclusion in openSUSE 11.0 GNOME. They may be found in various locations, such as Factory, a packager's personal repository or elsewhere. So check the Repo column for exact package location.

After testing, report your results to the associated bug report for that package. If you're interested in continuing testing as the package gets updated, be sure to keep yourself as cc'ed on the associated bug report.

Packagers

Packagers, please adhere to the following guidelines:

  • If none exists already, create a tracker bug at http://bugzilla.novell.com for your package and assign the bug to yourself.
  • Please link to the bug report so testers can follow and submit comments.
  • Please move your package from Open to Closed or Suspended table if status has changed.
  • Please indicate source of package (i.e., is it in a repository? Is it already part of Factory? etc.)

STATUS: Testers Needed

These packages need testers.

Package Bug Report # Package Location Packager Packager Notes
gnome-settings-daemon (openSUSE:Factory) rodrigo The GNOME Settings daemon from control-center2 has been splitted to its own package and has seen a bit of architectural changes. So testing everything is working as before is largely needed. To test it, just run a GNOME session and make sure all your settings (themes, fonts, background, clipboard, a11y, keyboard, etc) are working as in previous versions.
PackageKit gnome-packagekit (openSUSE:Factory sreeves PackageKit (and gnome-packagekit) 0.1.9.2 have been released into the factory channel. We are looking at looking at replacing the opensuse-updater-gnome-applet with the PackageKit updater for 11.0. Testers would be most appreciated. To test this
  • 1. Install the packages from factory. This does not replace any existing YaST, Zypper, or opensuse-updater functionality, just adds the PackageKit apps.
  • 2. Make sure the pk-update-icon applet runs and is available in the notification area when there are updates available (along with the opensuse-updater-gnome-applet).
  • 3. Run a system update from the applet (which launches pk-update-viewer) or manually run pk-update-viewer

There are known issues with

  • 1. Handling license prompts
  • 2. Generic failure message when dependency resolution fails - ie cases when zypper would prompt for manual dependency resolution help
  • 3. Repeatedly jumping back and forth between the overview and the details view.

Please report anything else. There are other apps in this suite and feel free to test these but the focus is mainly on the PackageKit system updater.

control-center2 (openSUSE:Factory) rodrigo a11y bits have been merged into the keyboard and mouse capplets, and there is integration of mousetweaks, so all this needs to be tested.
pulseaudio (openSUSE:Factory rodrigo Pulseaudio replaces esound, and while it should just work out of the box without changes, we really need to make sure all media-related applications in GNOME work correctly when PulseAudio is running.
Compiz Fusion compiz-fusion-gnome Factory 1-click compiz-fusion-gnome 10.3 1-click cyberorg This is a major update to 0.7.2 from 0.5.4 we used on 10.3. All aspects, such as autostart, settings tools (simple-ccsm and ccsm), stability etc needs to be tested. "Desktop Effects" caplet (gnome-xgl-settings) is now just a stub, but need testing if it successfully sets up drivers and Xgl. Also, a check box has been added to the Interface tab in the Appearance capplet (gnome-appearance-properties) to allow enabling and disabling compiz (this is in the control-center2 package in openSUSE:Factory).

STATUS: Suspended

These packages have testing suspended for various reasons (i.e., postponed to a later distribution, or needs more work before testing again, etc.)
