What is HOWTO?

HOWTO is mark for the articles that describes answer on specific question "How to" accomplish some task.
The HOWTO, HowTo, Howto and howto are equivalent forms. The word is first used for Linux related articles, but now is in widespread use.

Who is audience for HOWTO?

HOWTO is meant for people that are not experts for the topic. Good practice is to describe prerequisites for article in the first section, including required previous knowledge or necessary reading, with list of articles, to understand HOWTO.

What is the difference to SDB?

The SDB is kind of HOWTO written to point solution for particular problem that can be limited down to a single program and version, although in practice it will affect more versions, or in case of system applications it can affect whole system. See SDB Howto for more details.
