Introduction

Started at: 2008-01-15 18:04:17 <kl_eisbaer> Hi all! Lets start the meeting - even if we're just so little people... <a_ochs> hi @ all. Nice to see you :-) <kkirill> glad to see all of us too :)

Old action items

<kl_eisbaer> Topic 1: Old action items <kl_eisbaer> a_ochs: any news from your side? <a_ochs> sorry, no <kl_eisbaer> ok: so as neither jdsn nor jordi is here, let's see my AIs.... <kl_eisbaer> "Create a presentation about the Edu-CD process" <kl_eisbaer> hmpf. <kl_eisbaer> "...work is in progress..." ;-) <kl_eisbaer> I think I can start to describe the whole process if the 1.0 is ready. <kl_eisbaer> But if you've any questions, feel free to ask <kl_eisbaer> FYI: I've already started documentation on http://en.opensuse.org/Education/Development <a_ochs> no questions from my side <kl_eisbaer> So we can use the Discussion side or discuss questions about the process here in IRC <kl_eisbaer> next AI: "Status of YaST2 module for SquidGuard" <kl_eisbaer> We've got a first working UI now in the YaST-SVN <kl_eisbaer> What's missing is the backend part. <kl_eisbaer> So you can enter new URLs and Domains in the YaST frontend - but nothing will happen if you click on the Save-Button <kl_eisbaer> I'll update the wiki-page with new Screenshots, soon

Status of the Edu-CD

<kl_eisbaer> So we can procede with topic 2: Status of the Edu-CD <kl_eisbaer> I've got small personal feedback from the 10.2 release <kl_eisbaer> Just my server was overloaded after the official announcement <kl_eisbaer> haven't checked it yet, but over 100 ISO downloads in the first days is a good start imho <kl_eisbaer> I don't know if we should prepare an announcement on news.opensuse.org and opensuse-announce@opensuse.org for the 10.2 release <kl_eisbaer> What do you think? <kl_eisbaer> BTW: We've a sponsor here in germany, who ships the ISOs to schools! <kl_eisbaer> => http://www.openschoolserver.net/ <kl_eisbaer> ten 10.2 boxes and the 10.2 Edu-DVD for free for german schools! <kl_eisbaer> What do you think about the announcement: should we make one? <a_ochs> yes we can make it <kl_eisbaer> ok: I'll talk to the openSUSE-Webmaster, if we can place the 10.2 ISO in the official tracker. <kl_eisbaer> a_ochs: can you please write the announcement? <kl_eisbaer> next point: "Do we need an update channel for openSUSE-Education 1.0?" <a_ochs> Yes, but can we take the announcement from the opensuse-education.org? <kl_eisbaer> As already discussed: seems that we should focus on the next release of the Edu-Add-on and skip the update channel <kl_eisbaer> Just exchange the download liks <kl_eisbaer> s/liks/links/ <kl_eisbaer> I'll prepare an announcement on opensuse-education.org when everything is finished on suse site <kl_eisbaer> Including updated download-URLs <kl_eisbaer> Any other suggestions for the update-channel ? <kl_eisbaer> => current decision: no updates available for the 1.0 release <kkirill> I fully agree about skipping update, it is too many to update to provide this feature now <kl_eisbaer> ok - thanks :-) <kl_eisbaer> next point: "New/Updated packages - delete candidates?" <kl_eisbaer> kkirill: any news from your side? ;-) <kkirill> I have updated stardict, galculator, added atomix, fbreader, and lazarus gtk2 is almost ready <kl_eisbaer> Wow! Great! <kl_eisbaer> Where can I find lazarus? <kkirill> in my home project <kl_eisbaer> ok: I think we can move the fpc-packages into the Education repository, soon <kl_eisbaer> ..and special thanks for updating stardict! <kl_eisbaer> Can you tell us something about atomix ? <kkirill> I have built it with out any problems in my PC, but have still some unresolved troubles with requirements in BS <kkirill> *the last is about lazarus <kl_eisbaer> If I can help you, please let me know <kkirill> atomix - is gtk2 puzzle game for building molecules from atoms <kl_eisbaer> ah, ok <kl_eisbaer> BTW: I've added the packages above to the patterns - so they will be installed per default <kl_eisbaer> is this ok with you? <kkirill> thanks, of course ok <kl_eisbaer> feel free to add packages yourself to the pattern, if you like <kl_eisbaer> just remember: Prc => package will be installed, if available; Psg: package is just shown in the pattern file, but will not be installed <kl_eisbaer> BTW: can you copy or link "atomix" to the Education repository? <kl_eisbaer> otherwise it wouldn't end on the media ;-) <kkirill> ok, I have understood :) <kl_eisbaer> But it's very nice to know that I'm not the only packager any more ;-) <kl_eisbaer> We've also "anubisg1" as packager now <kl_eisbaer> She's formerly a packman packager - and has submitted the first packages to the Education repo: <kl_eisbaer> avogadro and ... <kl_eisbaer> ...planets (puh!) <kl_eisbaer> Avogadro is an advanced molecular editor <kl_eisbaer> plantes is a simple and fun planetary simulator <kl_eisbaer> I think we'll see more packages from anubisg1 in the future :-) <kkirill> btw, imho, in available applications the should mention GUI type, gtk2, qt, sdl <kl_eisbaer> ? <kkirill> add column to the tables http://en.opensuse.org/Education/Applications/Desktop <kl_eisbaer> Ah! good idea! <kl_eisbaer> => ToDO ;-) <kl_eisbaer> New packages from my side.... *hm* <kl_eisbaer> stardict-dictionaries (I hope, I've added every dictionary you need, kkirill ;-) <kl_eisbaer> selfphp <kl_eisbaer> ktechlab <kl_eisbaer> LabPlot-Handbook <kl_eisbaer> descriptions are available in the wiki :-) <kl_eisbaer> I've also updated tuxmath and tuxtype <kkirill> special thanks for tuxtype :) <kl_eisbaer> currently I'm anger about the "not 64bit clean" tuxpaint :-/ <kl_eisbaer> But I think I can fix it ;-) <kl_eisbaer> Just for statistic: <kl_eisbaer> Counting the wiki entries, I've got: <kl_eisbaer> 4 general applications <kl_eisbaer> 12 applications for small kids <kl_eisbaer> 95 applications for teenagers (!) <kl_eisbaer> and 10 server applications <kl_eisbaer> So we have over 100 packages especially for schools now <kl_eisbaer> without counting packages which need to be packaged as a result of dependencies <kl_eisbaer> I think these are very nice statistics :-) <kkirill> I afree, but I have informed you earlier about missing good IDE's for informatics lessons, that other distributives already had <kl_eisbaer> ...and I haven't counted the packages listed in the pattern files, yet <kl_eisbaer> hm: you mean netbeans ? <kkirill> gambas <kl_eisbaer> *seems I've missed your note, sorry* <kl_eisbaer> any more? <kkirill> fpc+lazaurs for pascal <kl_eisbaer> any URL for gambas ? <kl_eisbaer> http://gambas.sourceforge.net/ ? <kkirill> most likely <kl_eisbaer> ok. This should be doable ;-) <kl_eisbaer> if you package lazarus :-) <kl_eisbaer> ok: gambas added to http://en.opensuse.org/Wishlist_Education <kl_eisbaer> I've also done some small updates to different packages - but that are mostly trivial <kl_eisbaer> So if no-one has any other points: "Status of the different distributions" <kl_eisbaer> 10.2 released *puh!* ;-) <kl_eisbaer> 10.3 should be released, but I'm unable to do so as I wanted :-( <kl_eisbaer> And currently the BS is down again <kl_eisbaer> resp. the BS-Online repos are down <kl_eisbaer> So the important quesion is: when will we do the 10.3 ? <kl_eisbaer> any suggestions for the deadline? <a_ochs> 22.02.08? <kl_eisbaer> Why 22.02 ? <a_ochs> is good for marketing 22.02 <kl_eisbaer> ;-) <kl_eisbaer> so even 2.08.2008 is good for marketing ;-) <a_ochs> no, 20.08.2008 ;-) <kl_eisbaer> But I think we can use this as target date <kl_eisbaer> (22.Feb.) <kl_eisbaer> and decide to release earlier if we've packaged all packages we think we need .... <kkirill> any preview builds before final one? <kl_eisbaer> Yes, please just tell me how often you need previews.... <a_ochs> the for testing, i think the 15.02 <a_ochs> the= yes <kl_eisbaer> What about next Friday (26.Jan)? <a_ochs> no, to many work <a_ochs> at school ;-) <a_ochs> let's take the 08.02 for the first preview <kl_eisbaer> So we have 08.Feb for the first, and 15.Feb for the second preview? <a_ochs> ok <kl_eisbaer> kkirill: what do you think? <kl_eisbaer> is 22.Feb as official release date ok for you? Including two Previews in Februar? <kkirill> imho, just one prview will be enough as we should check only integration <kl_eisbaer> dito. I think 08.Feb should be enough. <a_ochs> think, we need tow <kl_eisbaer> So we'll have two weeks for fixing <a_ochs> hm, ok <kl_eisbaer> a_ochs: proposal: I'll start a cronjob which will create an upto date repo in download/test/10.3 every week? <a_ochs> ok <kkirill> I will live on blending edges using BS repo :) <kl_eisbaer> ;-) <kl_eisbaer> I know - but I like to check the integration with "license to confirm", docu, autorun.sh and so on... ;-) <kl_eisbaer> So any other questions around the 10.3 release? <kkirill> ok, I will megrate after 08.feb <kkirill> about package translation one, should we do this for 10.3 <kl_eisbaer> So the only point left is: "Testing status" <kl_eisbaer> kkirill: I like to have it for 10.3, yes <kl_eisbaer> But this depends on other requirements I have <kl_eisbaer> Currently all needed information is already in the opensuse-education database <kl_eisbaer> but the frontend is missing :-( <kkirill> any php folks? <kl_eisbaer> Seems that there's currently just me :-( <kl_eisbaer> and I'm more a perl or bash than php programmer <a_ochs> I think so, in Feb. i have time <kl_eisbaer> But I've currently just 5 packages left on my todo list for 10.3 Edu <kl_eisbaer> So it should be possible <kl_eisbaer> Next topic ?

Packaging questions

<kl_eisbaer> 3. Packaging questions <kl_eisbaer> Do we need a package which adds "openSUSE-Education" to /var/lib/zypp/db/trustedVendors ? <kl_eisbaer> => As we don't prepare updates for 1.0, we don't need this <kl_eisbaer> => but something to think about with 1.x or 2.x ;-) <kkirill> let's postpone this for final 10.3 release <kl_eisbaer> FYI: adding "openSUSE-Education" to this file "unlocks" the packages in YaST so they can be updated <kl_eisbaer> ok

Q&A Section

<kl_eisbaer> So we just have "Q&A" left..... <kl_eisbaer> Any questions left? <a_ochs> no <kkirill> the same no

End Meeting

<kl_eisbaer> So we can close the official meeting :-)
