Education/Meetings/Education Meeting 2007-10-22/transcript
From openSUSE
<kl_eisbaer> Welcome to the first real openSUSE-Education Meeting :-) <kl_eisbaer> So we have the following topis at the moment: <kl_eisbaer> 1. Bugzilla usage 2. Application descriptions in german and english 3. Adapt the english wikipages to the german ones (for example http://de.opensuse.org/Bildungswesen_Desktopprogramme) 4. Differences between openSUSE-Wiki and openSUSE-Education 5. Testing of applications 6. Where is the Roadmap <kl_eisbaer> I think we can start with topic #1: Bugzilla usage <kl_eisbaer> As Novell is currently unable to create a bugzilla "project" for buildservice projects, I started our own bugzilla at http://bugs.opensuse-education.org <kl_eisbaer> So everyone can submit bugs for the education project in this bugzilla <kl_eisbaer> (egal ob deutsch oder englisch, btw ;-) <kl_eisbaer> currently we still have 5 bugs => 4 resolved, one in state "needinfo" <kl_eisbaer> but I think we have more than one bug in our >600 packages in the repository <kl_eisbaer> But this is something for #5 ;-) <kl_eisbaer> any suggestions for the "new openSUSE-Education bugzilla" <kl_eisbaer> ? <a_ochs> no <kl_eisbaer> ok: so let's start with 2. Application descriptions in german and english <kl_eisbaer> What do you think about the new http://de.opensuse.org/Bildungswesen_Desktopprogramme page ? <kl_eisbaer> ...and additionally http://de.opensuse.org/GCompris as an example for a application description? <a_ochs> its verry clearly arranged <kl_eisbaer> FYI: the first page is already translated into english: http://en.opensuse.org/Education_Desktop_Applications <kl_eisbaer> So the question is: should we proceed with this way? <kl_eisbaer> ...and who will help us with this? <kl_eisbaer> sometimes it would be enough to link to the (good) english handbook of an application, but we need translators for the other languages.... <kl_eisbaer> hm: everybody reading the two example sites? <a_ochs> yes, someone can i write <kl_eisbaer> So perhaps you can create the page you like to work on - and add a note if this is not really finished? <a_ochs> ok <kl_eisbaer> => to avoid that another user tries to create this page, too <kl_eisbaer> So I think we can turn to "4. Differences between openSUSE-Wiki and openSUSE-Education" <kl_eisbaer> As everybody here hopefully has noticed ;-) we currently have the openSUSE-Wiki pages _and_ the opensuse-education.org site <kl_eisbaer> My vision is to use the opensuse-education.org site for: <kl_eisbaer> - short News (for that ones who are not worth a note on news.opensuse.org) <kl_eisbaer> - discussion (in forum, IRC, bugzilla) <kl_eisbaer> - hosting the Education-Repository <kl_eisbaer> ...and using the openSUSE-Wiki pages for: <kl_eisbaer> - long descriptions (of packages or the project) <a_ochs> I think this is a good idea <kl_eisbaer> But: this means that everybody who wants to work on the openSUSE-Edu project needs two accounts: <kl_eisbaer> one for the opensuse-education.org site <kl_eisbaer> and one for the official opensuse sites <kl_eisbaer> I think this must be more clear to everyone. <kl_eisbaer> But this also shows that the openSUSE-Edu project is a real community driven project <kl_eisbaer> We should also ping the admins from pensuse-cummunity.org - perhaps they can help us :-) <kl_eisbaer> Anyone here who can take the last point as AI ? <a_ochs> Have every one a another idea? <kl_eisbaer> ok: Next point: "Testing of applications" <kl_eisbaer> I think this is currently the most "Showstopper" for our project <kl_eisbaer> My guess is that nobody really tests the packages :-( <kl_eisbaer> or nobody enters bugs ? <kl_eisbaer> or nobody can reach us? <kl_eisbaer> or nobody knows about us? <kl_eisbaer> Can/Should we add testcases? (needs more time) <kl_eisbaer> Or should we investigate more in promotion? <a_ochs> Can we take a plan to test <kl_eisbaer> Yes. <kl_eisbaer> What plan do you like? <a_ochs> in the next week we take the Programms tor mathe <kl_eisbaer> So perhaps it would be an idea to create a (new) page containing the packages to test? <kl_eisbaer> I don't think that a "bugweek" would be effective <a_ochs> No, can we take it at IRC <kl_eisbaer> ok <a_ochs> or at the News <a_ochs> ? <kl_eisbaer> hm. I think not everybody joins IRC <a_ochs> now it's mathe time for this week <kl_eisbaer> So it might be a good option to add it to the News <a_ochs> or it's language time <kl_eisbaer> ? <a_ochs> a another News <kl_eisbaer> So a site like en.opensuse.org/Edu-Tests ? <a_ochs> hm <a_ochs> with Link from opensuse-education <kl_eisbaer> yes <kl_eisbaer> So lets come to our last topic: Roadmap .... <kl_eisbaer> Currently we have a lot of sites to work on: <a_ochs> At first we can take points for testing <kl_eisbaer> - opensuse-education.org needs administrators and editors <kl_eisbaer> - opensuse-wiki needs editors who write application reviews and howtos <kl_eisbaer> - ...and the testing site ;-) <kl_eisbaer> - the buildservice project needs some cleanups <kl_eisbaer> (delete some obsolete packages, follow renames, ...) <a_ochs> I can some write application reviews <kl_eisbaer> - the next ISO should be generated... <kl_eisbaer> So we have a long ToDo-List - let's press them into a Roadmap <kl_eisbaer> ...or should we use more than one Roadmap? <a_ochs> Yes <kl_eisbaer> I think one for the Edu-CD should be enough at this time <a_ochs> one for next relase <kl_eisbaer> we don't need to hurry for the other things <a_ochs> and one for future <kl_eisbaer> I like to create an openSUSE-Edu Add-on for 10.3 until 09th of november <kl_eisbaer> ok <a_ochs> ok <kl_eisbaer> So I will start to create http://en.opensuse.org/Education/Roadmap <a_ochs> for the openSUSE-Edu Add-on for 10.3 we must test all programms <kl_eisbaer> and add one "global" roadmap and one for the Edu-CD ? <a_ochs> yes <kl_eisbaer> ok. Any other points? <a_ochs> No <kl_eisbaer> ok: so the last question: who will write a summary of this meeting for the News site ? <kl_eisbaer> :D <a_ochs> ok, this can i make <kl_eisbaer> Thanks! <kl_eisbaer> ...and thanks to everyone who joined this meeting! <a_ochs> ok cu
