Request:

Topic: btnx
Question: a HOWTO for btnx would be wicked. preferably fully-fledged, but basics would be good too. This would help migrate the user from being expected to edit xorg.conf to using a GUI-only utility to setup their mouse configurations.

Topic: Configuring CUPS via YaST
Question: All the links for CUPS, on the web page documenting the printer module in Yast, point back to this same page. YET there is a separate sub module within the Yast Printer module focused on configuring CUPS. "CUPS server settings" I cannot find any documentation describing these particular settings, in particular what are browse addresses, and access settings? Please present a more thorough document about ALL the settings in ALL the various sub modules of the YaST printer setup tool.

Topic: OpenSUSE 11.0
Question: How do I make the default player not be Totem? I've tried using "Preferred Applications" but I don't know how to type in the command for MPlayer (which is the one I want to make default). I'm using OpenSUSE 11.0 if this matters. If there are instructions someplace PLEASE let me know where--if not, let me know how to do this!! Thanx.

Answer: Right click the file you want to open, and go to properties. Then, click on the tab Open With, and select the application you want to use.

There are other ways to do this. They are outlined here: http://forums.opensuse.org/applications/multimedia/399844-dumping-totem-favour-mplayer.html.

X

Request:

Topic: X-Window
Question:

The reference manual says in the chapter "X-Window-System / Manually Configuring the X Window System": "Those who try to develop their own monitor descriptions should be very familiar with the documentation in /usr/share/X11/doc." (http://www.novell.com/documentation/opensuse103/opensuse103_reference/data/book_opensuse_reference.html)

But in /usr/share/X11/doc there are only DocBook 4.2 SGML-files. I assume that this documentation is useful for other topics too. I didn't find any hint how to use these files. DocBook 4.2-files cannot be opened in openSUSE 10.3.

On the DocBook website there is a very general description how to convert DocBook 4.2 files into DocBook 5.0 (http://www.docbook.org/docs/howto/#convert4to5). Because I am not familiar with DocBook I cannot use this description.

In the chapter there is also the subchapter "For More Information". This recommends to install xorg-x11-doc and howtoenh. But there is no hint how to access this documentation. Yelp does not display any entry for X-Window.

Questions:

1) How to access the documentation of /usr/share/X11/doc, xorg-x11-doc and howtoenh?

2) How to convert DocBook 4.2 files to DocBook 5.0 files?

3) Because of what reasons DocBook 4.2 files are provided with X-Window? 5.0 files would be easier!

4) How to integrate DocBook 5.0 files into the Yelp menu?

Answer:

Answer:

to 1) After installing the package xorg-x11-doc you have html, pdf or postscript files below /usr/share/X11/doc. Just use those. All manuals in the package howtoenh should be available from the KDE- or GNOME Helpcenter. If you want to know where those html files are located, just type rpm -ql howtoenh after installing this package.
