TODO list for the KIWI image building project

There are several ideas, enhancements and of course bugs concerning KIWI image building. With this info page I would like to collect and prioritize the information from the lists and the irc channel. To report bugs or communicate with the KIWI developers and users, see Build_Service/KIWI#Communicate.

Strictly Speaking the "Kiwi" denominates:

a.) A New Zealander is called a "Kiwi"
b.) A bird is called the "Kiwi bird"
c.) The fruit, which incidentally in New Zealand is called "Kiwi Fruit", since it was created in New Zealand and New Zealander forgot to legally protect the name and product
d.) A shoe cream from England
e.) The openSUSE tool to create images.

The fruit lovers are only one of the targets ;)

For the fruit lovers :-)

KIWI TODO list
Description Status
Make the Live CD work with USB drives (i.e., ATAPI drive used with ATAPI to USB bridge)
Provide a KIWIConfig.sh module which can be used in the customization scripts config.sh and images.sh. Currently there are functions for service activation and SuSEConfig only
Allow config.xml to include more configuration data which can be used by the common KIWIConfig.sh module to setup for example sound, etc... Most of these things should be done by autoyast but there are other distributions as well and autoyast is big
Allow image upgrade when source has changed Implemented, untested
Allow image configuration of an already prepared image. Something like --add-package should install the package and add it to config.xml
Check for free loop device. Implemented, untested
Make use of aufs for live media To be discussed

Wish list (no guarantees of fulfillment)

  • GUI image builder
  • Branding tools integrated (like Rembrand)
