Benq JoyBook T31

From openSUSE

It first appeared on the market in September 2006. Turion x2 (contains two 64-bit processors), gigabit LAN, 13.3, 1.3Mpix camera, 1394, 4USB

I tried OpenSuse 10.1 on it. Its ugly.

Suse is my first linux operating system. I used it since 2004 when I bought an Asus laptop with AMD64 and gigabit LAN. It worked well.

But now i'm really dissapointed. Sound doesn't work cause for some stupid reason there are NO such modules for SMP kernel, only for generic. LAN driver can be downloaded, but there are problems in compilation. Suggestions in forums didn't work for me. In some curious way I managed to load the driver, but sometimes with new boot of the system LAN doesn't work, although ifconfig works fine for this interface. I tried to recompile the driver, but I couldn't overcome an error in compilation whatever I tried. Other things, such as bluetooth or WiFi I didn't check.

Update system is crashed. Uffffff

I tried FreeBSD, and although I had to recompile a kernel now NIC works well. Sound doesn't anyway.

As to LAN (RTL-8168) it is listed in ASPLinux HCL.

UPDATE In Suse 10.2 the problem with LAN has been solved. The driver has been back-ported from 2.6.19 kernel. OpenBSD 4.0 supports this LAN too, but it stops working in about ten minutes after boot. FreeBSD 6.2 installation CD doesn't support this driver.
