BNC Screening Team

This two-headed team does preliminary work on many incoming bugreports, helping users and developers to narrow down the problem and sometimes gives hints about how to work around a problem until it is fixed. In some cases we just offer help for already existing reports or helping in reproducing a problem.
One of our main tasks is to take care that bug reports are getting assigned to the right person, which is not trivial as users tend to choose wrong components and categories which results in bugs getting auto-assigned to the wrong persons -- which is understandingly nasty for these people. We also take care that bug reports are not lying around stale or cycling between not inflicted persons, but get attention in order to fix the problem. After all this accelerates the bugfixing-process and takes work off the shoulders of our developers.
Sometimes we act as mediators between the open community and the internal staff of SUSE. Our goal is always to create a certain amount of harmony between both fronts, which is not always easy. If problems or misunderstandings are keeping up, we try to create clarity by e.g. editing the Wiki or making proposals about how to improve the documentation. As the spirit goes on, it sometimes happens we do just other things like we helped in porting the SDB (support database) to this Wiki.
If you need help with a bug report or a report was assigned to you incidental, feel free to assign it to the Screening Team (bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com) - we will take care of this. The address implicates we are located at Provo, but don't believe everything you read, we're located in Nuremberg, Germany ;) As you can see we have a new team and we are now located in Prague, Czech republic ;)
