Event Details - Registration and payment

Q: What time does the event start/end?

A: You can find the exact schedule in our website conference.opensuse.org. The detailed conference schedule will be available in printed format at the registration desk.

Q: Will there be any parties?

You bet there will be! Stay tuned for details about our Partys!

Q: Can I see if I am properly registered?

A: Yes and you should, because we only reserve food, badges, party places etc for those registered. You can check and edit your registration details from the Registration Page.

Q: I added that I'd support the conference/forgot to add that I want to support the conference, can I change that??

Absolutely. Your support is very important for us.
Visit the Registration Page again and choose to support us.

Q: I registered to support the conference, how do I pay?

Thank you for supporting us!
Please follow the link from the Registration Page. If you have any trouble at all, please contact us at the visitors' Mailing List (opensuse-conference-visitors@opensuse.org).

Alternatively, if it's too late for that, you can pay during the conference at the registration desk.

Q: I am a speaker, should I register?

Yes, please! We only reserve food, badges, party places etc for those registered so if you're, like most of us, human, and need to feed sometimes it is advisable to register.

Q: I registered but I can't come, can you remove me?

A: You can unregister yourself from the Registration Page. In the unfortunate event that you cannot make it to the conference, please unregister or let us know so that we can have a better estimation of the number of attendees.

A: We can recommend the following websites:

Q: Do I need a passport?

A: Greece is a member of the European Union and belongs to the Schengen Area. This means that you can enter the country with your European ID if you come from an European country, otherwise you need a valid passport and possibly a VISA.

Q: How much money would I need per day?

You need about 15-20€ per day.

Q: How hard is it to find English speaking people there?

A: Not hard at all, Greek people speak English and will be happy to help you. Emergency numbers, including the number from a conference staff member, are also printed on your badge.

Q: What happens if I get lost or if I get in trouble, or if I get hit, or if I get drunk?

A: Emergency numbers will be printed on your badge. Apart from the police/ambulance, there is also a number from a Greek person that will be able to provide you with assistance in case of emergency (please only use in case of real emergency).

Q: I'm thinking of buying a Greek SIM card, how much does it cost?

To validate the SIM card, you need to have your passport or your ID (EU citizen).

You can buy a SIM card for 5€ from OTE shops.

You can buy renewal talktime for 5€ or 10€, from kiosks.
They have the reload it program that give you bonus extra SMS or MB or talktime (it's valid for a week).

You can buy a SIM card for 5€ from Vodafone stores.
You can also find some Vodafone kiosks around the city, where you can get the SIM card for free.

1. Choose Vodafone CU if you surf a lot (they give you MB bonus).
2. Choose Vodafone International if you want to call back home. Ask country rates at the Vodafone stores.

You can buy renewal talktime for 5€ or 10€, from kiosks.

Q: Could you give us a summary of available android applications?

Getting Around Thessaloniki & Tourist Info

General Information

You can move around Thessaloniki using the bus or a taxi.
Find your bus-route: http://oasth.gr/#en/bestroute/ Taxis can be stopped at anytime you see one passing from the street.

Q: Taxi Info

A taxi in Thessaloniki is not an expensive solution. They operate 24 hours/day and you can find one quite easily. There are special locations where taxis gather, or you can just get one from the street.

You call a taxi, with extra charge of around 2 euro, at 0030 2310 866866.
You can order and prepay a taxi online from http://travel.viva.gr/en/taxi
You can use the android application called Taxibeat.

  • Minimum charge is 3.2 euro
  • From/To Airport/port/train station has an extra charge of around 2 euro
  • There is also extra charge of 0.40 euro for every piece of luggage that is over 10kg.
  • A taxi from Aristotle Square in the city center to the venue, costs around 5 euro and up to 4 persons can board
  • A taxi from the Airport of Thessaloniki to the city center costs less than 25 euro

Drivers don't accept credit cards.

Q: Ticket Information - Where do I get a transportation ticket and how much does it cost?

A: You can buy a ticket from: I) Kiosks II) Ticket Houses or III) inside the bus.

Ticket Options:

  • 1-way Ticket for 0.80 euro (or 0.90 euro if bought inside the bus)
  • 2-way ticket for 0.90 euro (or 1 euro if bought inside the bus).
How to use the 2-way ticket: With the 2-way ticket you can use 2 different buses (any buses) towards any direction, within 90 minutes. When you board the second bus you must validate your ticket and this validation must happen before the 90 minutes from the first validation elapse. Once you validate your ticket within the 90-minute time frame, you can stay on the bus until it completes its route.
  • 24-hour ticket for 4 euro
  • 30-day ticket for 30 euro, must be obtained from a ticket house providing 2 small color-photographs and ID

For the hop-on/hop-off Bus Line No50, which does a historic tour of Thessaloniki, the ticket costs 2 euro and can be bought only from inside the bus.

Q: At what time does the public transportation start/end?

A: Public Buses operate roughly from 5:30 to midnight, every 5-10 minutes. Most bus stops have a real-time indicator of next arrival.

Walk is easier than take a bus. Walk east on Mitropoleos str. You'll pass Aristotelous square (on your right).
Turn left on Agias Sofias str.
Turn right on Tsimiski str.
Turn left on Palaion Patron Germanou.
Turn right on Egnatia Str and walk for a few meters.
Kamara and Rotonta are over there.
