Adding software is one of the first steps you'll do, as the software is the primary goal of building the appliance. Most of the software will and should be added as rpms. These rpms can be on any of the official openSUSE repositories, any of the openSUSE Build Service or any external one.
First of all go to the "Software" tab and search for the rpms you want to add. If you do not find them, then select the action "Add repositories" and add the repositories you need. You can add openSUSE Build Service repositories or external repositories by URL.
Keep in mind that these repositories will be available to everyone on SUSE Studio.
You want to add software that is not available in the template repositories? You can Search_for_software_in_all_available_repositories. (default path)
Once you've selected the software, it is time to configure your appliance. You can start by Configuring_Locale_And_Timezone_in_SUSE_Studio.
If you like the Locale and Timezone as they are, you can configure the firewall by going to Configuring_Firewall_in_SUSE_Studio or configure users by going to Configuring_Users_in_SUSE_Studio .
