The Overlay files tab is designed to allow the "calibration" of your appliance.

  • The files added here will be copied to the appliance in the last build step and they will overwrite the default SUSE Linux configuration files.

Adding files to your appliance is very easy.

  • Go to the "Overlay files" tab and just upload the new files.
  • When uploading single files, you can specify the path, the owner and the permissions this file will have.
  • Another option is to upload a .tar.gz file and specify the directory where it will be uncompressed. Owners and permissions will be keep as they are inside the .tar.gz file.

The other way to create overlay files is to use the Testdrive

  • The "Modified files" tab in the Testdrive will show the files reflecting the changes you made in the running system on the server. You can select and move the modified files to the Overlay files tab with less clicks.
  • A new build will make your changes permanent in the next image file.

So you have selected the software, configured your appliance, and added some overlay files. It is time to build the appliance. If you are ready, go to Building_Appliances_in_SUSE_Studio (default path) and start your build.
