Renaissance Learning is moving/has moved to a "web-based" version called Renaissance Place. While it is web based, it requires a bunch of plugins that must be installed on each workstation. Does not like Linux, at least not yet.

In the meantime, to get Renplace to cooperate with linux, this is what you have to do:

Install all available required plugins for firefox under linux. This will not work from the renplace software requirements check since it gags on non-supported browsers. Apparently doesn't like acrobat reader 8 either.

But no big deal. Get 'em from their respective vendor's websites.

Next, get the user agent switcher plugin for firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/59

And the additional user agent "disguises": http://techpatterns.com/forums/about304.html

Set the user-agent switcher to multizilla (xp).

Voila it works, and doesn't whine about missing plugins, etc.

The only thing that does not work is their proprietary print plugin, which automatically prints students test results upon completion of a test. Workaround: Click the print plugin!

Feels good to cut the chain on one of several boat-anchors :)
